hi, the rod on the back plate of a john deere sabre mower for the bypass valve, should it be in or out during mowing

If its like the Tuff Torque in my LT155, In to drivem out to free wheel.

Hi bja105, thanks for the help. Have had trouble finding/opening my messages.I did open the tufftorq and found that the washer behind the pump that is activated by the small pin on the release lever is missing.Hence it made no difference whether mine was in or out.
