Cluthc/Transmission question

I've been an automobile mechanic for the last 20 years and recently bought my first compact tractor. It's a Yanmar 276D and honestly, I don't know too much about them. My question is, when using the tractor, in any gear, I release the clutch pedal from a dead stop and the tractor just sits there for about 3 to 5 seconds then it engages as if it were an automatic transmission that was idling too low. But this tractor has what I assume to be a conventional dry clutch which in an auto application, should engage as the pedal is released. I was moving snow and when I tested the clutch against a snow pile, it will stall the engine so I would think its not slipping. It has a "power shift" transmission, whatever that is as well.

You need to clean your pickup screen and replace the hydraulic fluid with a JD303 type fluid. The symptoms are not uncommon for your tractor.

Thanks Bruce, I really appreciate your help. I was a little worried as I bought it "unseen undriven" and thought I had made a mistake.

On another note, I see that you have a website for Yanmar's. I'm going to repaint this tractor and was wondering if you have, can get, or know where I can get a complete decal package for it.

hello Sean, welcome to tbn. yes, you can get decals for yanmar. while there maybe other sources, you may want to start looking at hoyetractor for these types of things... they're at www.hoyetractor.com.

Bruce; I did as you recommended today and you were right, tractor now engages tight as a drum. Many thanks. There was allot of what appreared to be blue paint chips and flakes in the screen. I can't imagine that they paint the inside of the cases,..do they?
