One more question. I have another thread about engine break in but this one is about the new clutch we put in. This is for a L4310 HST. When we split the tractor we needed a clutch since the one in there was missing 5 fingers. so we got a new clutch and throwout bearing. Now that I am looking at an exploded view of the assembly I found on Messiks, there are supposed to be 2 snap pins that hold the clutch fork to the bearing holder. When we put the tractor back together we lined up the ears of the bearing holder to the fork but didn't know about the pins. We should have read the manual a little closer but were excited that there was light at the end of the tunnel. Is this going to be a problem or am I going to have to tear this tractor apart again to put the pins in? It would be nice if there were some small access holes on each side were we could access and install with out splitting. Has anyone say drilled 1/2" holes on each side to try it without

Cannarella,

Those two little clips bring the throwout bearing back away from the fingers. They should be there or else the fork will move back but the throwout bearing will be left to it's own devices and likely will "motor" along with the fingers.

Your call, but I would split it and know it is done right.

Good luck!

Yeah, that is what I was affraid of. At least I am good at stripping it down now and know where everyhting goes. It shouldn't take too long I guess... Just a bummer. I have been working on this on and off for about 4 months when I can. Better now then never I guess.

put the pins in and everything works great. They were a bugger to put on in that bell housing. I had to get a buddy to hold the throwout bearing so when I pulled on the clips it didn't slide off. It was much easier and faster splitting the tractor the second time. I think I got it split and back together in about 4 hours. This was with all the prep work already done like dash removed. Total time from disconnecing the battery to reconnecting it was probably about 8 hours by myself.

Congrats

And hopefully that's the last time you'll have to split this tractor, or at least for at least a very very long time. :drink:
