a couple of 4x4 for post and cross members will work fine for a stand alone closeline.

Try your local Hardware store, not Lowe's or Home Depot a "REAL" hardware store. If they don't have them they should be able to order them. No too expensive either.

Thanks to all for the leads. Went to a welder to get the "pipe" type of clothesline which is what we were really looking for ... went ahead and ordered it. He said that years ago he made many of these, but haven't had anyone ask for one in about three years. I won't say what it cost (MUCH more than I expected) ... I have to assume that those who said this type wouldn't be much haven't tried to order 26' of pipe, eight "eye' bolts, and 3 hours of labor to put it all together. Solar dryers aren't much cheaper than the fossil fuel type!

Those extendaline made by hills are great they retract so you don't have them in the way if not in use. We had one for years, but when we built or recent home we put one of those round things up, my wife hates it.
I would think you would get them in the USA. You may even go to that web address that Neil posted and send them an email asking where you might buy them in the USA

That's ok... I'll bet those poles are a pleasure to use for many years to come. I have a MIG welder so I made a set for my fiance out of 3" Black Iron pipe and she loves them. Clothes smell so nice when they are hung out!
