clip or clamp?

Ok, so now I have a water return and a fuel line to replace.
I have the hose, but what do I do to secure the hose.

Both the fuel and water hose have spring clamps on them. My boating background says to use hose clamps. In fact on the boat, use double clamps on anything carrying water or fuel in or out of the boat.

Since I have to replace the hoses and the spring clamps are old, should I replace them with hose clamps or replace them with some new spring clamps?

I have never had any problems with the spring clamps, but on the other hand you aren't going to hurt anything with the hose clamps either.

I always use the hose clamps, just for the added security.

I prefer to re-use the spring clamps because they "keep on squeezing". But they have to be in good shape. Not having a convenient source for my favored spring clips, they often get replaced by stainless hose clamps. I have occasionally had hose clamps leak because they needed retightening and that has never happened with the spring clips. Hose clamps sure are niftier to look at....

Kinda reminds me of the volkswagons... some came from the factory with -no- clamps.. just a good fit hose, etc. or spring clamps.

Ever notice how an oem piece of equipment will last 20 years, go bad, and the replacement parts are more or less 'disposable' as they go bad in a hurry. Makes you wonder.
We have some older heavy equipment from the 40's, 50's, and 60's. The piece from the 40's is a german made excavating machine. The whole electrical system consists of the starter, alternator, key switch, and necescarry wiring for those devices. The oem alternator on it lasted into the mid 1980's... and has had 3 replacements since...
