Thanks! Its good to know it is not just my machine!

I have followed the procedure but there seems no consistent method to "unload" the transmission to make the shifter move easily as it can at times.

The four wheel drive in/out is equally troubling

The 4wd on mine isn't tough. It is just like the good old trucks where you actually had to shift the transfer case. A little finesse and it pops right in. Easier than the other levers and the linkage on the 4x4 is especially fragile looking.

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifDitto here! I find the shifting very problematic. I especially hate it when I goose the foot pedal a little to get it to shift and I hear the gears grind. For the most part I find just staying in the middle range works the best. In low range when loading I tend to spin the rear vheels making big divots that I then have to drive over, then smooth out. In mid range that doesn’t happen as often.

Drew,

Belive it or not a dealers 11 year old kid told me to drop the bucket down & raise the front tires up off the ground before shifting into and out of 4wheel drive. During the demo i followed his advise and had no trouble getting the CK30 HST in/out of gear. May be worth a try....

These are not synchronized gears and the tractor should not be moving when shifting ranges.

I know this thread is not about the bigger tractors, but I shift mine all the time while moving. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I'm talking about the low/mid/high range selector.

I always do it while mowing. Part of my land is a little rougher, so I go slower. I mow in 8th gear in this rough area, then push the clutch and put the main tranny in neutral from 4th, move the range selector from medium to high, and finally put the main tranny in 1st. All this while coasting.

I also do it by going from 9th back to 8th, BUT you cannot be moving as much because you are dropping a gear.

I think driving big trucks has help knowing when to shift!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would like to try one of these CK's

If I were to try that with my CK20, it would grind badly no matter what else I tried to do. Moving and changing ranges is a no no for the CK20HST. Maybe it's different in the models with synchronized gear trannys.

I could say I shouldn't have to do that /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif but that is a great idea and I will be sure to give it a try. Good advice from an 11 year old

I sure wouldn't want to raise and lower the front end of the tractor just to shift in and out of 4wd. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I shift mine in and out on the go everytime. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm sure it is for mine also, but I still do it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Only because it does not grind, while going in. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Kinda like driving a vehicle without using the clutch. Sure it is probably a no-no, but I still do it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
