"thanks for the replies - looks like the 30 is the way to go for me - will it run for a day on one tank of gas? Also, what are "rear remotes" for and should I get them?"

No, it will not work all day on one tank. I have to add 5 gallons every 6 hours or so of real work. I think it is a 7 or 8 gallon tank. If you like to run it real low and you only work for 8 hours then your could probably get by. I always bring one 5 gallon jug of diesel and a full tractor tank when I go to work for the day. Of course this time of year we get light for 15 hours a day.

Rear remotes are extra hydraulic outlets at the rear of the tractor. They are controlled from the operators seat by levers mounted near your right hand in stock openings. I wish I had ordered two of them for the purpose of a top and tilt, and to control a front mounted grapple. Folks also use them to power log splitters and anything else needing hydraulics. Oh, and you will want at least one remote to run the backhoe. At least get that one or you'll be sorry. You chose a great backhoe, I'm already jealous.

For the purpose of lifting heavy things with the loader, if you can lift it then the front tires can take it. Kioti actually lists 700 lbs of ballast on the 3ph as needed for loader work so a ballast box or heavy implement (I use my boxblade, a backhoe will work) on the 3ph will take the place of loaded tires. Imagine a teeter totter with the fulcrum being the front axle, you need something heavy on the back to keep things working right. Loaded tires have some other benefits that don't apply to loader work.

1500 lbs is alot. If that's a real weight then I would be sure your chosen loader can do it. I don't think the CK30 can.

John,
The loader will most likely pick up just about anything you can get in the bucket and the tires are designed to handle that load(check the specs, 1155 lbs at the pivot, so no it will not pick up 1500 lbs...more like 7-800). Now with that said you could drag 1500 and a whole lot more very easily. The fronts do not get loaded and will not "pancake". The rear tires should be loaded and/or a counterweight on the 3 point. I think i remember my dealer saying that the rear tires come loaded if the tractor is ordered with the loader..... but i may be wrong, and i can't confirm it because i never checked the tires for fluid. I use my heavy duty box blade as a counter and haven't had any problems, so a BH would be waaay more than enough.
If you are hoggin in low range you will not make it all day on one tank...something like 3 gals per hr.
Rear remotes are for runnings extra(cool) stuff like a log splitter, hyd top link, etc, and may be standard issue with the BH. I'm sure some of the other guys will chime in and fill in the blanks and or correct me if on the outside chance i was w...wh...wrong on anything /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif.

thanks for the feedback everybody - looks like i'm going to go with the woods 80x backhoe...everybody says it's great...

the loader is my only main issue - in addition to kioti's fel i was also offered the woods 1012 fel ..how important is the curved arm vs dogleg in terms of benefits from your educated perspectives?

also, i'd like a grapple but am not sure i need a dedicated unit - in other words, how would a fixed grapple work in the real world (like the bh fixed thumbs)? a waste of time or pretty good for moving things like branches, etc.? what's the best front mounted reasonably priced snowblower out there today? JD actually had one for 3800 (60 inch) but green won't match my orange...

what size bucket should i get with the bh...16" and smaller is std... how useful is a tooth bar? any particular quick attach plate that is better than others?

the trigger finger is getting sweaty...

thanks, John.
