Chronatron Aluminum Rods

Local repair shop purchased some 510 DC+ aluminum welding rods made by Chronatron.
Do these really work ?

I have a friend that used some on a job on the local airport beacon tower. Couldn't get a tig to it and it was all that was available. It hasn't fallen down and has survived a couple of near misses from tornados. I can't speak for them myself. But he said its like trying to shake water out of a garden hose.

Aluminum Stick is difficult because of the travel speed you need to use. The secret is 500 degree preheat and run the rod at a 90 degree angle to the work. Otherwise it wants to spit aluminum all over. If you have oxy-acet set, Turn on acetylene only and smoke the part with the black smoke. Then turn on the oxygen and start heating the part. When the black goes away, You are at 500 degrees. ( or buy a temp stick ) Aluminum Stick rod makes a nice weld when used in a brazing application too. Use it just like brazing rod on on aluminum.
