MX 5100 KUBOTA 2012/
I have a Kubota MX 5100, 4whd hydro-stat, I have approximately when none of its leased out about 300 acres with 2/3 of that in hay meadows. I need some advise on a disc mower. I would like something on a Dolly or caddi. And I need some info and advise from some of you guys. like size, brand ect. I would like to buy the rite one the first time. I may also hire myself out to help friends cut and rake. whats my best choice? I have considered swathers , and haybines. I believe my tractor is right at 60 hp with 56 in the pto. whats the largest cutter I can safely use without harming my tractor? And does it allow me a slightly larger mower if its on a dolly? I would like to go Krone, or Kuhn.

Royce, morning.... Have you looked into Drum mowers ?? I'm getting one in a month or so.... from CCM machinery... There are many manufacturers and all have their +'s compared to sickles and discs... Light weight, speed of mowing and they don't plug when cutting tall hay....

I'm not trying to pick on you but you and I have the same exact tractor and I believe they are 50 hp and 42.5 hp at the pto. I just want you end up with the properly sized mower. For what it's worth I have a close friend who runs a Reese drum mower on a 40 pto hp Allis 5040. They love it other than the belt drive. I believe it's 5' 6" or 6'. Good luck!

Yes, Your rite. Sorry about that. It is a little power house for sure though. I love that little tractor.

Welcome

Is it flat or rocky and hilley in your area? That can make a big difference on what would be best for you.

its mostly flat, and deep sandy loam in the bottoms with just a touch of red clay mixed through it. up on the higher land its also flat but rich red clay. no rocks in hay meadows. But quite a few gophers in the sandy regions. Im stepping up the gopher poisoning program though. and even looking in to a gopher plow that puts out poison underground.

I love mine as well. I've yet to put a hay cutter on it yet but I have done some baling with it and it handles a square baler fine. I have seen a few guys running 6 and 7' disc mowers with 4000 series deeres which are about the same size as our tractors and they seem to handle them pretty good.

you should be able to run a 6 drum disc mower that should be about 7.5 feet.both are good mowers .i like krone the best.you may need to add wheel or front weights.

Please keep us posted on what you end up with and how it works for you this season. I'd sure be interested as I might be in the market for a cutter in the not so distant future.
