Childhood Tractor

If you don't want to spring for a new flywheel you can unbolt and turn it 1/4 turn. Most of the time they stop in the same place, so there is only one bad spot. You still will have to split it though...
As your neighbor said, it isn't the tractor you remember. Aside from the age and problems, if you've been running newer equipment it might seem a bit primitive to you.

Still, it would be a tractor from your past and a lot of fun, even if you don't end up using it much. That's something which not everybody can say.

I would get it and then decide what to do with it later. Once it is gone it is gone. As long as you have it, you have options. Even as a lawn ornament it still has value to you.

I would definitely get that tractor. Nice smooth six cylinder. It will likely still be running long after the computer crapped out in your new tractor.... Not a fan of the electronics.

You will regret it forever if you pass on the offer. I'm sure your friend/ tenant has no problem keeping on the property until you are ready. Tell him you want it, you'll fix it, but you'll want to get the keys now.

I'd get it. A similar thing happened to me. My mom "gave" our nursery to a distant cousin along with the Ford 8N I learned to tractor on. 8 tractors later I still miss that one. I recently saw a beautiful 8N parked on the side of the road a few miles from our farm. I think I'm going to put a note on it.

I started at age 8 on our 460 utility gas. Then later remembering dad getting a 656 utility hydro gas, a real problem tractor. Traded that in after a year for a 656 utility diesel standard trans. Loved that machine. Still have it in the family.

Get the tractor, this will open up many possibility's as you said you don't have an adequate shop, so there you go, you can build a new barn/shop, a man always needs something to do to stay busy, getting this tractor will help in that area.;)

If you have the space to store it, even if repairs or use of it are in the distant future, don't pass up on the opportunity.

I hope that I eventually end up with the ol' Massey Ferguson 135 I grew up on... dad passed about 3 years ago, but as long as mom stays on the farm, so should the 135.
