I looked at a JD 790 last night, nice tractor and good price but, I felt gramped sitting in it , not much room to move around, the FEL control was pressed against my thigh and I see where this could be a problem. The orange one seems to have more operator room(2910-3010). This is one of the things I'll take in account when I buy....any thougths from you guys? PS I'm a tall person and leg room is important.

RoadTrash, the 790 is an economy class tractor or 'value model'. Kubota makes a economy model L3000DT which is also cramped. I bought the New Holland economy model, TC30. I chose this tractor because it has a large, roomy, open operator station. This tractor, unlike Deere and Kubota, can also be had with a hydrostatic transmission. The Deere, Kubota, and New Holland 'value' models are all 30 hp and are comparably priced. The Fel control is also mounted near the dash on the NH and Kubota. Good luck.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention that the TC30 has 1,600 lbs of 3pt hitch lift capacity compared to 800lbs for the JD790. The loader on the 790 is quicker and easier to attach and detach. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thats a nice looking tractor. I have not looked at the NH's becouse I do not like the swoopey look of the body work. Guess I will have to take a look.

I am also tall. I had a B2910 for a little while but felt cramped in that too even though it felt better than the older JD series. I have the 3010 now and it is much, much roomier for me. I am very comfortable with that.

Hey Jerry! Where's the disclaimer saying this is merely a representation of your tractor, not your actual tractor /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif? I too looked at the TC30, but the wife was willing to buy a different brand at one exact moment in time, so did the deal while the "gettin was good". I would have gone with the TC30 myself. Great tractor for the money!

I was wondering the same thing, but decided I'd be the nice guy and not make some smart alec remark about age, memory - things like that. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

After all, I did award his tractor a medal! /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

You're right. I should have learned my lesson the last time. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif I don't have any pictures on file here at work of my Award Winning Tractor. Gonna have to send some from home. /w3tcompact/icons/clever.gif

Jerry:

Have you moved those flashers to the rops yet. I moved mine to the inside of the rops, and now she just sneers at tree branches.

s1120,
From what they told me at the Louisville EXPO.......the TC30 was a new model. It does not have the sloping hood that... say the TC33 does

Once I got on the tractor (a TC33D) that sloping hood was a selling point for me. Not because of the looks (personally, I prefer a more "traditional" look), but because it gives a much better view of what is going on up front.

John Mc,

I too like the hard nose Kubota B21/L35/L48TLB's for the same reason..

Needed to get a little orange in this discussion.

Doesn't Deere sell a 990? An economy model much like the 790,but more H.P. and I would think a little larger frame and platform area.

Jerry,

I just have to ask...what is under the tractor? I hope it isn't a drip pan. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

BigDave, I pulled that picture off the Web. Some dealer site as I recall. It looks like a wagon for one of the little pedal tractors that you can see nearby. I don't know why its under there.

Maybe, its there to catch tears of joy from NH buyers /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Ya, I can see your point. Does look like it would help when working with something up front. But I do still perfer the more "tractor looking" tractors. But what do I know, all my expearance is with my little Ingersolls./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I shopped for a tractor for about nine months. I really had my mind made that I was going to buy a JD990 or 5105. At first I did not like the appearance of Kubota, although I did the maintenance work on 2 of them for Little League for 3 years. One thing I did know about them was that after all the abuse those 2 tractors went through they were tough. The only things I had to replace were burned bearings and blades in mowers , pieces knocked off or broken. Both of those tractors are still running. After a closer inspection of the 990 and the Kubota on the same day I decided on orange because I don't believe the JD compacts are built as well as the larger models. The 5105 was just too pricey for what you get vs Kubota. After taking delivery on an MX5000 I know it was the right choice.
Just my $.02 and probably not worth that much
Mike
