Can't imagine how it makes other GM owners that contribute here feel about themselves and their trucks.
I would think they are made to feel bad about themselves because of the constant political put downs tied to GM? Mife wife drives a GM truck that has been far more reliable than the brands I drive, but I don't make a big deal out of it.
I disagree with the bailout too, but I thought politics got checked at the door and we just talk trucks?

You are completely correct. Funny how politics squirm into truck talk. I have owned 7 GM products. I currently own 2. I have a 2011 Z71 and my wife has a 2012 Traverse LT. The only one that gave me minor issues was the 2005 Z71 with gauge cluster problems and a leaky windshield. All others performed admirably. Not one major mechanical failure on any ( ie engine, trans ). I have also owned 4 Ford trucks. Put a motor in the 1997 F150 4wd at 140k miles but the others, including the 2 6.0 powerstrokes, performed fine. I put a lot of miles on vehicles, 40k a year minimum, so they get tested pretty good.

I know. I just was stating that GM better get it right this time. I had a 05 that had all sorts of injector issues. My 99 7.3L Ford and both my 04 and 06 6.0L never had a single injector issue. I know its coming due to the age and millage but the Dmax 3500 I had started having injector issues a month into it.

Did you LLY have the overheating issues? The 07 LBZ wad nice but the 2011 seem to be on track with reliability. All the Duramax issues of the past is why i will never buy a used diesel truck. The history would nickel and dime me to death. A gasser HD would be more likely.

I have not had any of the issues with my 5.3l, and i think part of it is my refusal to follow the OLM. I change by mileage.

My next truck will not come along until 2015, 5.3l DI should fit nicely. Will know more Dec13.

It's the constant I'll never buy a GM and tiresome bailout stuff that I'm referring to...It is what it is whether we agree with it or not.

I agree. Enough already!! What makes me laugh is the same type of people in other industries will make those comments and then apply for government grants.

You sure dont have a problem with bashing up on Ford all the time. I see far more Ford bashing than anything on here.

Yes. Throw 10K behind it and it would puke coolant and overheat. Injectors and glow plugs along with some wiring issues and poor paint on the bed. I only keep it for 9 months and bought a 06 F-350 which I still have. Its been in the shop one time for a bad dash cluster.

If I was to advise anyone on a GM diesel get a 08 or later. The LBZ motor from 06 and 07 was not bad but it shares everything else with the previous years.

I see the same thing. Like the 6L is a POS. There are more 6L motors running around than Dmax and Cummins combined. I just left a body shop/towing company and the guy said he has very few issues form his 6L stuff. His bigger stuff is Ford also but with Cummins.

Where are they now though?

All the Engines and Water Tenders in my Fire Districts are inline 8.9l and 10l Cummins for the last 10 years. Some older apparatus have Cat-3208T(Ford 7/8 series chassis), and a couple have Detroit's in them.

I would take the big in-lines any day.

The V8's in pickups are ok. they are a lot like big block gas engines, which is nice for folks that are used to that. I like the overall "feel" of the Cummin's in-line 6. I would probably prefer that in-line 6 if Cat ever got engines in 2500 pickups too.

Mack made a V8, Cat had the 3408, perkins V8 in a MF, and detroit had V8's. A Ford desiel will out last the truck. I know a guy who has a roll back with a powerstroke with 478,000 on it.

I think the only reason why the Mack E9 was out of production was emissions??

There are far better engines out there than Cummins, but people are brainwashed. You could put a Cummins emblem on a pile of crap, and people would buy it.

You could say that about any of the motors. I have heard folks bemoan the fact that a Cat is better, and they(Cat) have motors that could go in to light trucks. I don't think I would go so far as to say there are motors that are far better though. If so, what are they and why aren't they supplanting the Cummins, Duramax, or Scorpion? I think the Duramx and Scorpion, and the older Powerstorke, are just fine. I just happen to like the in-line 6 better.

A lot of it is opinion...

I happen to have expierience with light trucks, fire apparatus, and a limited time with a dump truck. In my expierience the Cummins, in light duty or heavy duty, is a nice motor.

Your expierience and opinion may vary and is, well, yours. Nothing wrong with that, except my opinion is right :D
