Saw my BIL today, noticed a revolver he had as he was going back to his truck... It was a Heritage Arms Rough Rider with bird shot in the cylinder. He had been shooting rats by the chicken house. Nice little gun, showed my wife, told her thats what to get me come Christmas. New tractor gun!

Just bought a pair of decent old Smith Model 36s in .38 Spcl at a local auction. Only about $250 each. One in nickle, one blue. They were both a little rough around the edges but cleaned up nicely (blued one is done, still working on the nickle). They just don't make 'em like that anymore. The precision fitting on the internals is stunning.

Too bad they were both lost in my boat when it overturned yesterday. And what an odd coincidence CrackerJack!

I've got a couple of the Heritage RR revolvers, and I'm a fan of them. They go on sale at Rural King and a couple of other local shops for $100 every so often.

Our local Wal-Mart usually has either a Mossberg Plinkster or a Savage semi-auto .22 for sale for right at $100. I bought a Plinkster earlier this year and love it. I've quite shooting my 10/22 ever since I got the Mossberg. Undoubtedly, the 10/22 is better overall rifle; dollar for dollar, I'm happy with the Plinkster.

Good luck and take care.

It sounds like it's time for a salvage dive. Offer to pick up the tab at a local dive shop and you might get them back. Guns survive short immersions just fine. Spritz them with WD-40 as soon as they get into the air.

I have a Single Six & Colt in 22, nice guns that i bought years ago for around $250 for both of them. If i were looking today, i'd probably give the Heritage a real good look.

Ronnie

Yeah, the most economical firearms are the ones you bought years ago. I have an 870 Express super mag that I paid $279 for new in store. I have a Single Six new model that I paid $225 for used in box, new condition. I have a 686 that I paid $275 for, which is also what I paid for my Marlin 1895. For that matter, I have an Argentine Mauser (1891) with a matching 3 digit serial number that I paid $25 for from Monkey Wards in about 1957. I mail ordered it when I was 10 years old. How the world has changed.

I'm fond of single action revolvers. The Single Six has a long (9.5"?) barrel. I just picked up a Virginia Arms Dragoon in .44 magnum with an 8-3/8" barrel. I got it for $300, I think because nobody else knew what they were looking at. When I popped they cylinder out to check the bore, I got a smile from the gun shop owner. It's a little strange how expensive firearms have become. The last gun show I was at, a 686 just like mine was marked $700.

I also have a Taurus 9-shooter double action .22 that is a piece of junk. Not recommended.

Have the same Heritage Rough Rider. Nice gun for the money. Picked it up last year at Academy Sports Black Friday sale. :). Really planned on carrying it more but it replaces my leatherman on my belt and I use my leatherman way to much to give it up.

I used to have an Astra Cadix in .22 that was a 9 shot revolver. Pretty accurate for a cheap little gun. Wish I wouldn't have sold it.

I bought my Rough Rider > than a decade ago with both cyls and sights (Williams Fire front, Millett adj rear). One day when breaking out for a shoot I emptied the .22 LR cyl of its CB Longs before demonstrating how easy the cyl swap is. Didn't adjust my earplugs for the first Mag shot and ... yeah, my ears rang for 20 minutes or more. It likes CCI Mini-Mag HPs, so I'm set for hunting with it.

My 10/22 has been abandoned for a 77/22H for most yard work, but SS Taurus 9-shot DA or the Marlin 995 (775 pkg w/scope) go in the boats 'cuz if they go overboard they are easier to find and to clean up if not recovered withing 24 ... minutes. (have dropped the revo from the canoe a few times when running my trap line from the canoe )

I've had enough .22 LR experience with Ruger, Mossy, Marlin, and Savage to recommend the Plinkster as the best of the lo buck .22 LR guns. It seems less ammo fussy than the Marlins and Sav 64s, is more accurate IME. (btw, Sav mags are not cheap, Marlins are)

A 10/22 is gonna cost too much by the time the trigger & barrel are swapped-out for Volquartsen bits, the stock is replaced with a laminated blue Boyd's Barracuda, and the laser designator, silencer, shoe buffer, metal detector, and vacuum-bagger are attached. :D

Friend of mine had one, chrome plated with the simulated pearl, plastic grips. This is the guy that hunts with a surplus 303 British, he's the one with the sling made from a piece of rope through another piece a garden hose.
If you like it, you should buy it....while you still can.
