I find it challenging to change gears on my BCS735, especially getting it in and out of 1st due to the angle of the shift rod. It can be finicky when moving into gear or neutral, and I have to play with it to get it right. Are there ways to adjust this so it is a smoother process?

I wonder if this is just what happens as the machine ages or if it operated this way when new. Sometimes, I have to use my foot to kick the shifter into or out of 1st. If someone knows of a way to smooth this out, I'd love to hear about it. I actually bought mine before you bought yours, but it was well used already.

The retainer holding the shift ball that slides into the slots has thin walls. I know from experience it will split from a hard slam into gear and once that happens you have to take the gearbox apart to replace the shift arm, not a fun task. I found the use of a high molybdenum sulfide grease (moly) liberally applied to the shift slots and ball makes it shift easily. Regular grease did not work for my shifter. The molybdenum sulfide grease immediately made shifting much easier. I also recommend wiping off the previous grease before putting the moly grease onto the shifter mechanism so as to have as much pure moly grease in the friction/action zone as possible.

This is the reason I prefer forums to seeking regurgitated print information from dealers. Time-tested real-life solutions are what I am seeking. Bill, I appreciate your suggestion. The problem I have is I don't see moly being listed by percentages on grease. Can you recommend a particular "high" moly product?

Where do you recommend putting the moly grease?

Thank you. I wasn't sure if grease should also be added where the rod enters the gear housing.
