Is it necessary to change the fuel filter at the 50 hour service?

I had checked mine and it looked like new at 50 hours. I kept an eye on it, being that I was still learning this new tractor. I did finally change it, with no engine running problems, at the normal 200 hour hyd and hst filter service interval. Even then, it looked clean. 900 plus hours and still running well by changing the fuel filter at 200 hours intervals. So my answer would be no.

I don't change at 50 hrs. 150-200hrs between changes works for me.

If I had a new tractor like that, I would try to follow the maintenance schedule and keep maintenance records. But then again, I'm retired and have nothing much else to do with my time or money than to tinker around with stuff and try to look busy so my wife won't find me more useless things to do. :)

I agree with following the manual, but the problem is the manual. One page says to change the fuel filter at 50 hours, another page says it's not needed till 200 hours.

If you have a see thru type filter, then change it when it shows some contamination, either dirt or water or if the engine starts to stall or run slower. Otherwise follow the OEM recommendations for all service requirements.

Fuel filters get changed once a year on all my machines. Most of the time I'm well under the hours stated by the book.

I change mine in the winter when they get clogged with paraffin

50 hours are nothing, if you have clean diesel and use proper plastic cans. One og my tractors went 15 years and 500h on the same filters.
On my van I changed at 130000km but it no difference so it wasn't clogged.

Read your manual and change as recommended.
The manual says change it @ 50hrs, and the manual also says first change at 200 hours. That's why the question.

The only logical reason for this are the possibility for remains from production of the tank. Seen new tanks full of remains after welding and for those operating the snowblower in this case i saw had hard time keeping it running.

whenever you do...if it's a can filter, it's best to fill the new filter with fuel before you screw it back on.

No, according to the manual you don't have to change it until I think 200hrs. I just did my 100hr service, and only cleaned the original filter out. It did need that.

The inside front cover page of my manual says to replace the fuel filter at the initial 50 hours.
page 74 says replace at 200 hours.

Service manual says change every 200hrs. I didn't touch it at the 50hr service, cleaned it at the 100hr service, will change it at 200hrs.

That's because you have a different tracter.
