??'s....Was the snow wet and heavy...What type of tire on the front now...

If your tractor tractor has frontend loader attach, throw some wight in the bucket and see if that makes a difference.

Turfs on front...hmmm...maybe weights along w/set of good AG tires on front might help.

Some say and dealers its okay to use tire chains on the front as long as you go slow, but there are some and dealers that say its a bad idea to use tire chains on the front.

Ghamden,
I used over 200 lbs of weight on my old B7100 (no loader, with ags) to keep the front end heavy enough to be effective in the snow, especially with the rear blade on. Even with that much weight, sometimes the front end would slip and slide if I found myself quartering on the hill at any angle at all. Rear tire chains also made an overall world of difference. My drive is very steep, about 300+ feet long, all up hill.
P.S. I'm jealous over the snow!

Chains on the rear will make a world of difference. I use double rings when the ice gets bad, they're also useful in the mud. No way would I chain up the front. I'm sure a little weight up front wouldn't hurt, but adding the chains will easily double or triple your traction in the snow and ice.

I did a little experiment when I first got my chains, I drove into 12"+ of hard snow in 2 wd and went less than 30', made it another 20' or so with the diff locked, 4wd got me a little further in. I had to use 4wd and the diff lock to get out. On went the chains and I circled my front yard, (10+ acres), in 2wd, no diff lock.

If you can separate left and right brakes, use them to help you steer if the front doesn't give you enough control. I plowed for years with my 8N ford with double ring chains and did just fine unless it was glare ice really built up on frozen ground. The ford is 2 wheel drive.
