I have several cedar trees that I need to get rid of and I also need some mulch in my flower beds. I also have a chipper/mulcher that needs using. I know cedar naturally repels some insects like moths and other bugs. But should I worry about termites? I've heard several horror stories of people using wood chips in their flower beds beside their home and a resulting termite infestation occuring. Any advice is appreciated!

I haven't heard about mulch bringing in termites, but I'm sure it has happened. I would think they would prefer larger substrates like boards and large pieces of wood.

I have about 4" of mulch in our flower beds, it is about 80% Cypress and a 20% mix of pine bark and cedar shavings. I have only had an issue with fire ants, but I would have that problem mulch or not. I know I would go light on the cedar amount since it is so acidic, maybe a 20% mix with other materials. You may also be able to use the remainder as a compost for next Spring like mixed with leaves, commercially available mulches and the like.
