Case Dozer Questions

I Had a dozer loaned to me. It's a Case 1150B.

This same dozer was used by a friend, and he said at one time, while trying to back up a decent incline, that it wouldn't move. Turns out it was low on trans. fluid. Does the transmission use the same fuid as the hydraulic system, like a tractor? I want to make sure she's topped off before I start using it.

It would be best to call Case. My Case 1845c skid steer calls for HyTrans, or 10w 40 with a qt of Case additive. Another Case machine, a trencher, says to use ATF or HyTrans for the hydraulics.

OOOPS... Does this dozer have a hydrostatic transmission ? Then count minus 25% to the life expectancy of the pump and motor... high pressure systems like hydrostatic traction drives are extremely sensitive to air pockets, and the cavitation it causes...
I wont buy it when i know this happened

I believe so. No hand clutches. Two foot clutch/brake pedals and a foot throttle on the right. Dozer stops when you let off the throttle...

Should be a powershift... 1150's didn't get hydrostatic till the Kseries
after the fiat merger.

We started it up last night to start using it, and it wouldn't move.

Put 3 gallons of UTF (all I had left from the last fluid change in the Kubota) in it because the trans dipstick barely had any on it. I'm stopping at TSC to grab two 5 gallon containers tonight.

Thing has been beat pretty bad. It does push pretty good now, but we're keeping a good eye on the fluid levels.

The cylinders need to be re-packed. Tracks are worn pretty good. My dad has been running dozers for 30 years. He can do more with a beat up old machine than most could do with a new one.

We're gonna baby it & send it back home.

Sure sounds like that dozer is on the edge and I sure wouldn't want the trans to go out while it was on loan to me. Of course I have always been the type that if it broke while I was using it it was my responsibility to fix it.
