Buying Advice case 444, 446 or 448?

I'm new to this site, but have been very impressed with it so far. I'm very interested in getting a Case 444, 446 or 448 to refurbish for use, and fun. Although I'm not overly familiar with these tractors, I've been extremely impressed with what I've read. Can anyone recommend whether I should pursue the 444 over a larger model since the 444 has a Kohler engine? I know that Kohler is a great motor, but I don't really know much about the Onan.

I had a '84 446 for 25 years and it was a workhorse. There in nothing wrong with having an Onan engine. Never had a problem w/mine. The only difference between the 446 and 448 when I got mine new, was the 448 engine had an oil filter. But that was in '84 I would look for one of those and not the 444. The 444 attachments will fit both of the bigger models except their sized down a little. Good machines:thumbsup:

i have had a case 446 for about 10 years now and i love it. ( i amthe second owner)the only problom is that it is had to find new rear wheels. other than that it is a great tractor.

I have a 1968 Case 444, with a 44 inch cutting deck and a 54 inch snow plow with chains. 16 HP Kohler, I've had it since the mid 1980's. the only downfall with this tractor is the pto engagement, someone's idea that was bad from the start.otherwise it has been a great tractor.

my dad bought a 446 in 1975, its still in the family. right now iam working on putting an electric fuel pump on it. like the other guy said a 446 doesnt have a oil filter, BUT my dad added one, its not hard. also he removed the factory tractor battery, made a box to go between the rear tires, with a full size car battery. i have the books for the onan bf engine 16 hp 2 cyl, and the case 446 tractor. if you need i will be glad to copy them, and send them to you. send me your street address. moe7404@att.net
