Can\'t Believe the Difference!

I just changed the motor oil and all the tranny oils for the first time. I used Mobil 1 full synthetic 15W/50 for the motor and SuperTech 85W/140 gear oil for the tranny and front wheel drive. The stuff in the front drive and trans/rear end came out like sludge...was all clotted like and took FOREVER to drain out.
Motor runs smooth but the big difference was in the way the trans shifted... it was astounding! It was always hard to shuttle shift and change gears but now, it's like butter...no kidding. I am just thrilled.

Can there really be that much difference in Chinese oil and ours? Whatever...it really was a noticeable improvement.

what are the specs on that tranny fluid, probobly full of moly.

It's SuperTech gear oil bought at WallMart. I don't have the bottle in front of me but I can find out this weekend. Not sure how much moly...if any it has? Tractor specs called out for straight 90w but I decided to use the 85W/140 exactly for the reason that it was shifting so crappy. Now I'm super pleased.

I was curious of the shear wear ability since it endures extreme molicule squeezing. its possible that the new found viscosity is not a product of a quality fluid but alot of moly.

Well, I didn't know that...I thought it was an American oil?...In any case, it sure was different from the oil that was inside the tractor! Definitely made a difference.

Ahh, the old jokes are the best, aren't they? Hey Rob, is 15W-50 (and 85W/140 for that matter) what Kama specifies? Sounds kinda heavy unless you're in the Mojave. (Hey, that has a nice ring to it).

FWIW, Skypup, whose advice I really respect uses Amsoil 10-40 in everything he owns. I use the 10W-30, and 80W-90 dino in my front axle, though I might switch to Kubota Super UDT (true synthetic) in the front axle for the winter. (For those in southern CA, winter is this thing where it gets really cold out).

(All - Please, no oil wars or Amsoil bashing - I'm mainly interested in the weights).

For those anywhere in the USA, winter is this thing where it is dark 16 hours a day, it's so cold that if you sniff your nostrils stick shut for a few seconds, and it isn't going to get warm again for months ...

No, they "recommend" SAE30w and 90w.
The 15w/50 is full synthetic. The 85w/140 is not. I'm sure I don't know as much as Skypup does, but I believe the lower viscosity comes into play in colder weather and the heavier comes into play when it heats up. It's not like running straight 50w and 140w. Check out the oil when adding it.... pours like a lighter viscosity than straight 30w or 90w. It's supposed to give you protection on both ends, covering a larger spectrum of temperatures. I use it in all my stuff and have had no problems. I don't think it'll hurt anything in the KAMA during our mild Winter and I think it'll be especially good in our hot Summer.

My personal opinion,... the tolerances and quality control used in the manufacturing of this Chinese tractor's motor and tranny (especially the front drive axle) are not so exacting that they demand strict adherance to the oil viscositiy recomendations.

I'm not recommending for anyone else to do it, just wanted to let you know what a HUGE difference it made in shifting the tranny on my KAMA.
