Kioti DK45Se
Many moons ago we would/could pull a straight drive tractor/car and it would fire up. Granted these were gas best I remember. Made me wonder if its possible to pull off a more modern tractor?

I did try to pull start my kioti last Sept or so and it didn't/wouldn't crank. I ended up finding that one of the low/med/high range selectors wasn't engaging a switch (I guess anyway as it did crank when I jiggled it as I was turning the key over).

But it did make me wonder is this even possible now and is/was it possible for diesel's?

Pull off a tractor? Are you asking if you can pull start a "modern" tractor?

Depends on which tractor, some you can some you can't.

Not an HST nor a computer controlled tractor, but certainly a geared tractor with mechanical injection. I've started both my M's like that in the past. Even bump started them when facing downhill by just rolling.

Even if it's EFI you should be able to push/pull start it. You're just replacing the starter motor's functionality.

It may be a challenge to get enough traction to turn the high compression diesel motor over.

My reference was indeed targeting tractors. When I tried cranking mine I tried every gear to no avail. But it wouldn't crank normally either as stated above. I guess I gotta test the theory to pull it off when it will start normally should i need to in the future.

I knew the HST wouldn't work, tried that with the f1445 mower. Just slides the wheels.

If 100% geared then yes should be able to pull start. Use a higher gear on tractor being towed and it will turn engine over easier vs sliding rear tires. The exception might be if they have a hydraulic clutch that engine to be running to engage or disengage the clutch.

HST, shuttle shift, power shift will not pull start since they require hydraulic pressure to engage the clutch

Actually, on my Kubota's with the hydraulic shuttle, when the motor is off and not running, the hydraulic clutch is engaged. When the motor starts is when you can disengage it. I can pull start both of mine if necessary. IOW, the hydraulics disengage the pack, not engage it.

You always pull start in a high gear, never a low gear.

It’s the only way I start the 1949 Cub and my 1905 Oldsmobile…

Not necessarily on all makes/models . My power shuttle uses hydraulic pressure to disengage the secondary clutch, not to engage it. With the engine off, the wheels are hard geared to the engine
