The owner doesn't know much about it. I asked the brand he said he thinks it is a husky. I am trying to figure out how reliable they are and if parts are available. He is asking $5500 with loader and rototiller. Thinking if it is as well kept as he claims. It might be worth it. Supposedly still has the original tires kept inside ect.

Way too much money. You can get a late model Kubota with FEL for that price and know for sure that parts will be available.

Absolutely - that thing is a lawn mower, not a tractor, as far as construction is concerned. Look at the sheet metal "frame". It might be worth as much as $1500 on its best day. Provided the tiller was in perfect condition.

It worth 2500 tops.

I'm fairly sure the tractor is a Satoh S370, manufactured in Japan. They are good little tractors, but are little. I can't help you on price, but $5500 seems pretty high.

As far as parts go, it depends on what you mean by "available." Clutches, water pumps, engine rebuild parts, belts, filters, tires, etc. are all available, but will almost certainly require an internet or phone sale to obtain. The hard parts won't be found on the shelf at a local dealership unless you already have done some groundwork to obtain part numbers. Filters and belts will be available at Napa, and tires are tires. If you're wondering about things like replacement large castings, they may be available sometimes, from tractor recyclers, but nobody can order you a new casting from Satoh. Some sources may be able to find somebody in Japan who has some old stock somewhere, but this is a 30-35 year old machine. There's not a lot of call for big replacement items anymore.

For what it's worth, Satoh made excellent little machines, and the Mitsubishi diesels in them are great too. I wouldn't pay what he is asking though. Look around in the neighboring classified ads and find some other options and get a better feel for the pricepoint of similar machines before making a decision.

Last time I was there they had quite a few of these little guys, and priced about the same too with no loader or implements.

I bought a Satoh/Mitsubishi S340 last year just like that one in the pic without the loader. But it came with a Ford rototiller, rough cut mower, grading blade, and snow blade for $2200. Had to drive to Poland..............................................................................................Indiana to get it though. Nice little machine, but it is basically a big garden tractor.

I agree with you, generally, on this point, but the compact diesels like the machine shown here is a far cry from an actual garden tractor. They aren't made of sheet metal: They are cast transmission housings, axles, and commercial grade diesel engines designed to do agricultural work on commercial farms. They are good for thousands of hours if moderately maintained. While it's not going to pull a 6' disk or double bottom plow, it will do work day in and day out that would destroy a garden tractor. It's good to keep in mind the range of tasks one has in mind, though. If he's needing to move a lot of dirt or disk large fields, plow, or mow a large area, this machine may take too long, because it is so small.

Yeah, stout little machine. The model number should be on the hood decal. Look it up here for amplifying info. By way of comparison, I got $4500 for my 24hp Yanmar - also Japanese - two wheel drive (R3 tires) and 60" mid-mount mower. No loader.

Whether right or wrong, better or worse, I thing the yanmar name is worth more than satoh

I'm not sure of tractors make but when it comes down to what it is worth I have several rules I go by. Whats it worth to me, example what do I wanna use it for. When it comes down to replacement parts, depending on how well one is set up just about anything can be made today, if you can't make it yourself then there is always some one else who can. I dont know about most men but when it comes down to what something is worth all logic thinking appears to go out the window and one pays what one believes is a fair price. Most men who are short on $s and knowledge value things at a low price while others who are good with their hands and making parts will have a different price in mind. So whats that little tractor worth, only the seller and the buyer will know when it comes to handing over the cash.

I think Adam Smith covered it well a couple hundred years ago when he said, "The value of a thing is what that thing will bring."
