Well, that'll give you something to do in the fall....I was always working on tree falls and branches.
Take pictures of the tree line and start marking them for the ones that look like they are aging out or dying and in the spring you'll have a plan of action.
I still have a few dozen small dead ash to remove along the share road. but they are mostly marked so I know where they are.

Got home this afternoon and did pod shuffling, got a machine parked in warm garage for melt-off. I am processing photos now but here one as a teaser. This is our 1st load of camp supplies on Thursday. It was to deep for tires and the deepest I have ever operated in snow with them. Tracks are your friend!

This is the trip out. We needed to haul our atv trailer back out in top photo. The snow was to deep to tow this high flotation trailer out, so we made the first run to camp without it. It was the deepest snow I'd operated a wheeled atv in before. Our 6x6 outlander is in the closed trailer at the parking-lot.

@ArlyA, could you fit a set of skis to the trailer for the deep snow? Something that could be installed and removed easily? Just a thought.

The abi trailers use individual axles with torsion rubber style not walking beam. Might be cheaper to buy a tow cargo toboggan.

I love snow but not fighting it.

I used chains on a Ranger SxS and they were not the answer. Then went with pods for a short while and never got stuck. But I was too lazy to take them on and off and had to run the engine at twice the RPMs. Finally decided to sell them. For my needs, a SxS was not necessary in the winter…just a nice toy.

Your camp will not be accessible without pods unless you get the road to the point it can be plowed.

I live in an isolated location. After getting rid of the pods, I had snowmobiles on hand in case we got snowed in and had to get out in an emergency.

Once I acquired a tractor the fear of getting trapped was no longer an issue.

Once your road is addressed, I see a tractor with a grapple and blower in your future. After the ice storm of the century earlier this year we had dozens of trees down. I cleared a 2 mile stretch in a day. At 75, the grapple was a life saver.

The one downside of a blower is breaking shear pins if you get branches falling on the road. But it allows snow to be blown away from the road. This year, I sold my blower and got a pusher. I get less snow and have places to push snow so it should work in my situation. You could get 18” of the white stuff so a pusher may not work well.

When you guys talk about “pods” are you talking about tracks? I’ve never heard them called pods before. Or are you talking about something else?

Got pods on the 6x6 yesterday and 1/2 done on the Kodiak. (no pic) Here is photos of that and the terrible shape the road in, is now. Rained before the snow moved it.... These two photos are 5% of the wet/mud spots.

@ArlyA It seems that fighting the snow is a real challenge. Is this something you enjoy? Or is it a real PITA?

We are skiers and moved to the UP so as to do it consistently. With the right tools, its really fun. Snow plowing AND skiing. 😆

Thanks.

How long does it take you guys to switch over from tires to tracks? I have tracks for my Kubota 1140 RTV and it take an hour to a hour and a half. There are brackets that have to be removed/installed every time which slows things down.

That road might be interesting in the spring.

It was about an hour on the Ranger and that is one reason I got rid of them. If you need to use a SXS in the winter where you get a lot of snow, they are great. But I did not need the use of a SxS during the winter.

Arly has some challenges with that 1 mile drive to his camp so I see the need. I would use a cheap used sled instead of an ATV as it is a lot less money, but he has the pods so it makes sense for him.

Is there much difference in aggravation between installing pods on the Can Am vs the Yamaha?
It does takes some time, and those anti-rotation brackets do take snaggeling to get them clamps on. The 6x6 rear pods do not have anti-rotation brackets but have other challenges to work with. Either take me more than 2 hours to do.

I think when you get a tractor you’d be ahead to get a couple of loads of oversized gravel and fill in those wet spots.

His issue is not wet areas. Almost impossible to get a SxS stuck in the mud spots Arly has shown, and if you do, the winch gets you out.

The problem is snow…deep snow. I got my Ranger stuck in 14” of snow using chains and had to get pulled out.

2" lug longer tracked snowmobile will get you and your gear where it needs to go. Even if your pulling a simple cheap smaller jet sled with or without a rope or tow bar. I haul wood up the hill to my cabin from my barn in the up. It works great and if I'm really tired I can detach the jet sled and drag it in my cabin thru the front door to my wood rack 😂 inside.
