After crashing out of control down a hill and cracking the left hand fender my BX 24 will not start. After coming to a stop, I was able to go to the bottom of the hill turn around and head back up. At that point I ran out of fuel. While i drove off I left the key in the ignition. When I got back and fillled up it would not turn over. The lights on the dash come on but nothing else happens. I thought I left something on and tried charging the battery today. No dice. Anyone got any ideas what might be going on? Thanks

Have you checked your fuses?

Make sure you didn't leave it in gear. It'll only start in neutral.

If you left the key in the ignition in the run position, the fuel pump would be clicking away. If you were out of fuel and the fuel pump was running, I would say it is likely it burned out. Do you hear clicking when the key is put in the run position? If you don't, then either the fuel pump is not energized or not functioning.

I checked the fuses. None were blown. The fuel pump seems to be trying to work. It is clicking. When I ran out of fuel I was facing up hill, if it matters. I also put everything in neutral. The gear on the starter does not move. When coming down the hill I hit a tree hard enough to destroy the left fender if there might be a cause there. I seem to be missing something.

If the starter isn't budging, I'll bet that awhen you ran into whatever you hit a connector came loos on one of the seat switches. There are two of them, I'd pull them all the way off and even test the switch...maybe one of them moved out of position from the force of the impact...

Good luck and let us know what you found...

I would have to agree with Charliebrn. I bet this is the problem, since it is not turning over and you are getting the clicking noise. Check the PTO saftey switch under the fender.

I checked both switches under the seat. The black one towards the front appears fine. The switch as continuity as well as power running to the connector when switched on. The switch to the rear has continuity through the switch, but no power when turned on. I don't know if that is normal or not. I did not try the PTO switch, but will if that is a possibility. Thanks

Got it. Apparently on the ride down I must have damaged the switch for the PTO. I jumped it and it started up. Thanks for your help
