I just did my 50 hour service today on my BX24. When I purchased the tractor over a year ago I asked to include everything I needed for the 1st service so I could do it. Well...after returning the wrong filters (oil/hydro) this morning and picking up the correct ones I started the engine oil change. I get to the point where I need fill with fresh oil and it makes me nervous because the owners manual specifies 10W30/40 oil and the oil weight that the dealer gave me was 15W40 (Kubota Brand). Is this correct? I am a little skeptical since they messed up the filters that I needed. It was 1:10pm when I discovered this and the dealer closed at 1pm today...figures. I had to fill with the 15W40 since I could not leave the tractor where it was any longer. If it's the wrong weight I will drain and refill Monday. I'm located in central Maryland in case climate dicates the weight of oil used. Right or Wrong weight? Thanks in Advance.

For this time of year, 15W-40 is fine. The owner's manual for my B3030 also specifies 10W-30 but a mechanic at the dealer said he uses 15W-40 in the summer and that's what I've been using for two summers. In the winter I use synthetic 10W-30 but I don't imagine you get Minnesota winter temps. in Maryland. I have no idea how cold it gets in Maryland in winter but to be safe, I'd use 10W-30 when winter does rear it's ugly head, 15W-40 is a bit thick for winter use IMO, even in Maryland.
