One thing I would do, is now that tractor is running, is I would take voltmeter in hand again, and with tractor running at high RPM, I would measure charging voltage. Depending on how long since the startup, it could be anywhere from 13.to 14 volts. But down to 12 something and falling.. not good!, Alternator problem or loose alternator belt... Would not hurt to take a look, only takes a second or two, and no assistant required! It is probably fine, but you never know.
