Hey All,

Looking at getting my first tractor and have pretty much settled on paying cash for a Kubota Bx23s. Mostly because all my neighbors recommend the dealer.

I’ve never negotiated a tractor before so wanted to see if you experts had any opinions on the quote before I pull the trigger. I talked to two other dealers and they were around the same price so I don’t think I am being ripped off, but I also assume there’s a bit of wiggle room beyond the first quote.

Quote:
2025 Bx23s - $22,049 (28,368 msrp)
12in bucket - $654 (668 msrp)
Block heater - $305 (? Msrp)
3pt hitch - $334 ($279 msrp)
48in Box blade - $1041 (1131 msrp)
48in shear pin rotary cutter - $2168 (2435 msrp)

I think the tractor price is decent, but was hoping to get 20% off implements and perhaps something extra like filled tires thrown in. Is that hoping for too much? I did have another dealer offer the 3pt hitch and filled tires free, though other things were a bit more expensive so it evened out.

Looking forward to hearing your more experienced thoughts.

Does the Backhoe (BH) not come with a bucket?

For my Massey Ferguson same size as that, I just bought a block heater for $240, and has to install it myself ...

Over all prices seem inline, but I think you should be able to wrangler out free filled tires and a hat!

Some dealers though don't fill tires, and will guide you to a local tire shop that does, so that maybe some the tractor dealer doesn't offer?

I'd try to get a slip clutch model on the rotary cutter, and learn how to adjust it, if you are brush cutting for the first time, not just weeds and grass ... As new territory you just don't know what your new brush hog will "find"!

If you want to know accurate msrp pricing, ask the dealer for a copy of their Kubota Wholegoods Price list. That lists all the options on their current tractors along with all the msrp prices. The Wholegoods Price is what schools, commercial companies, and municipalities use when they prepare bids and grants.

Shawn, I know that you like your similar size Massey and use it a lot. Is the thumb on the backhoe as useful on a small hoe as on the larger ones?

The disadvantage is its manual, I gotta guess at which hole in the adjustment I'm gonna use, usually farther out is better, I guess it's possible to make it hydraulic but, doesn't seem worth it to me ... I've never used any backhoe other than mine ...

But I use the thumb for all kinds of different stuff! Logs, rocks, water barrels, cement blocks, even armadillos! (I ain't touching one of those!)

The trick I've learned on using the manual thumb, is drop the thumb just in front (closest to you,) of what you want to pickup, then curl the bucket to it ...

A new wrinkle … how would yall value a used bx25d vs a new bx23s?

My dealer has just taken in a 150hr 2012 bx25d on consignment. It already has a thumb, tops lights, block heater, and belly pan. $17,625 before tax with a front mount snowblower.

I don’t really need the snowblower, and I’d be bummed to lose the ssqa and have a pin on bucket. But almost $5k difference would buy all the attachments I want.

What would you do?

That snow blower is worth some money, but if you don't want it, you'll need to store it or waste time trying to sell it ... And I don't think it will fit on the new ones either, check with dealer if he would trade you a brush hog for the snow blower? Or something like that ...

Or else I'd stick to your original plan ...
