I just got in my deck adapter for the 580. Problem is... I can't seem to make it fit right.

Palmor says to leave the BX's chute deflector in place to provide downforce to help hold the Trac Vac adapter where it's supposed to be. I honestly don't see where there is enough clearance to do so.

The Kubota dealer says to take the BX's chute deflector off. The fit is very good but the Trac Vac adapter's front end keeps jumping off the pin.

Anyone have this setup who can give me further insight? Thanks!

Maybe some sort of bracket or cord to hold it in place. Like a bungee cord from deck wheel to deck wheel around the boot to keep it in place. A steel bracket would be nicer but that would take some fabrication.

Yeah that might work. For $225.00 you would think it would mate securely though.

I would just make a U shaped bracket that you could either bolt or weld to the under side of the Trac Vac adapter to make the current upside down U piece a full circle. Since the rod just slides through it should be no problem taking on/off.

snpower you are right. But most of these adapters are "universal" so they fit various tractors. Personally I would have tried the original Kubota boot for thier bagger system. If the houses were the same size diameter it should have been a perfect no fuss fit however it too is pricey.

After looking again I like Zick's idea. Simple and quick and solves the problem

I have the same 580 with steel boot for my Cub Cadet and needed a boot for the new ZTR so I bought the plastic boot $34 on line and fabbed a bracket for my new Ferris out of 16GA sheet metal that loops around the pin/bolt on the deck. When the boot gets clogged with leaves/sticks its very easy to lift up and off to clean out.

I would suggest a very simple solution for you is to remove the galv pin you have, put a bend in the head end then put the head end in the end where your slot is so it goes over the top of the slotted piece, then put a spring on the opposite (left end) to keep tension on the pin. This will keep the boot on and also enable you to remove it in the event of a clog.

The pin may or may not be long enough to make a neat loop but by the pics it looks like it should be..

Put the grass deflector back on. You have the wrong shaft to hold the deflector on. The correct shaft is headless and is held in place with a roll pin. The rear ear of the Trac Vac collector slips over the headless shaft while the front ear hooks over the top of the shaft, and the spring loaded grass deflector holds it down in place. I run this setup, works like a champ.

Hey Ron,

Thanks. That shaft is what came with my 54" deck are you using a larger deck that came with a different shaft I wonder? Shaft length aside, I just don't seem to have enough clearance to fit the collector underneath the grass deflector.

Thanks for braving the cold for the pics. My JD X300 had a similar chute design to yours.

I'm just plain stumped - another 10 minutes working with the thing and I just don't see anyway to leave the grass deflector in place. Taking it off is a bit of a pain, with the spring and all, but if I have to that's what I'll do.

The dealer could have ordered the wrong one. They sent me one for a ZTR originally.

I'm running a 54" MMM. My deck is stored about 15 mile from the house, but will try to get a pic this weekend for you.

One other thing, I had to grind a little bit off of the front ear for it to fit under the grass deflector. I'll try to find the part number for the correct shaft for you.

Part numbers......... K5651-47160 Pin, discharge

75599-52525 Pin, spring

I think I solved the problem, and will confirm it later this morning: the wrong adapter was ordered. Check out the attached image, and see if you concur. The part # that was ordered is at the first arrow, the part # I believe should have been ordered is by the second arrow. The difference being that the second # refers to BX series decks.

The right tool makes the job a lot easier!

And the dealer ordered the correct part # for me this morning...

Both my decks have a pin that looks like what "638" posted, my brother has a BX with a 54" deck and his also has the deflector pin like in "638's" picture, I think your pin is not the original pin that Kubota puts on their deflectors.
