$14.49 for the strainer and $2.25 each for the O-rings (2) locally.
Now we'll see how fast I can slide the new part in when I remove the old one!!!

With the tractor jacked up and leaning substantially to the right and a new strainer part ready to screw in, I lost about 1.5 cups of hydro oil. There is really no way to plug the hole- it leaks from inside the suction fitting. And, of course, what does leak out is contaminated with metal filings, so it can't (shouldn't) be reused.
If you make the mistake of not cleaning this strainer while changing the fluid, you had better have the replacement part on hand or you WILL be doing another fluid change!!!!

Ray you might use iso. alcohol. we use it on aircraft engines to clean about everything. it drys fast and doesnt leave any unwanted residue. brake cleaner can melt plastic and will eat the paint off stuff.
naptha or mineral spirits can be used but alcohol for stuff like strainers that are inside an engine or transmission i prefer.

If it's good enough for a 2 million dollar turbo fan engine it's good enough for my tractor.
