Anyone else had trouble with theirs? It seems like when I get it on a bind it pops open more often. Is there an adjustment anyone has to share? I would be grateful for the info.

Looks to me like you need to teach your BX that it's supposed to do that against a tree.

It seems that the lock doesn't fully engage when I snap the hood on my BX23. If I use that method it tends to open by itself with the engine's vibration. So, now I push the hood gently in place and it doesn't pop up like before.

About the pic... god /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif... what happened?? Were you sleeping at the wheel? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Or were you racing the devil and the hood opened suddenly and you missed the curve? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif How did you get the tractor out of there?

I know how to keep it from popping open - stop doing that /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif . There isn't a lot of engagement on the pin that keeps the hood shut - if the tractor frame flexes enough the hood will pop open. I have had that happen a couple of times when I got the tractor in similar position to the one you showed in your picture.

Your tractor was just expressing its displeasure with being put into a position where its well being was being challenged to the limit. I suggest in the future if you want to try to lay the tractor on its side, that you swing the backhoe boom out to the left so the landing on the right side will be a little more gentle. Last time I saw one with that much tilt, the operator was headed into the shower to clean up.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif NO... it wasn't me!!!!

Mine does that sometimes, when it does I just pull up on the release lever to make the catch engage as much as possible. Seems to work fine after doing that.

I added new "feet" to each edge of the hood, it makes it a little harder to close, but it never pops open anymore, unless of course I run off the road and....

Mine does that too if you twist it too much. Normally it doesn't happen

You are very lucky. Mine tipped over with a smaller incline than that. Now whenever I work on even a small incline sideways I put the backhoe stabilizer out sideways just-in-case.

Can these things survive a tip over without any really bad damage - not that I want to find out...

Just like everything else, shut it off as quick as possible and tell all your friends that it was no big deal /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
You could tear up a mowing deck or 3pt attachment but the tractor will survive sans sheet metal but those are battle scars now.

I was lucky. I did not have the mower deck installed, and it didn't go all the way down. My pickup truck was parked next to where I was working, and the tractor rolled over into my truck. The ROPS slammed into the rear door and I was left hanging by the seatbelt. If the mower deck was installed, I suspect it would have been damaged beyond repair. Even though I did some severe damage to my truck, I was very thankful that it was there to keep the tractor from going all the way down. I'm also thankful for the backhoe, because I was able to lift the tractor back up "on it's feet" by lowering the backhoe stabilizer. If the backhoe was not there, I have no idea how we would have picked up the tractor. Would probably have to have called a tow truck.

Wow, I am glad you are not hurt, and the tractor only looks a little worse for the ware. Thanks for sharing this with the group, as I am about to get one of these, and this will just help me try and keep it safe. Last year, while using one of the small rubber track, track hoes, I was grading a bank, and using the BH as a lever, to push the limits, of the angle, only figured it out, after machine started to tip. Lets all remeber these are real machines, and to Keep it Safe.

Thanks for the concern but nothing was hurt except my pride /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif The wife came out and ask what I thought I was doing /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
So far the little BX23 has been much stronger then I thought it would be. Its built with safety in mind but with the FEL and BH on its not real stable on sidehills at least not on the ones in WV. It dug through 25' of at least 3" of blacktop with several layers of rock and gravel Saturday with no problem at all. The final couple feet where I had to tie it in to the other ditch is where I had the problem.
