Tractor
Kubota BX25D
Hi. I am new to tractors in general. We just purchased 2.1 flat acres and am looking at kubota tractors to help with mowing and some moving of dirt, stone, big rocks, etc, as well as snow clearing. It appears that a BX#### would do the trick. When I suggest a BX## to the wife the prices were $12k-ish with FEL, MMM, and BH. She was none too happy with that price.

Anyway, there is a BX2230D (I have no idea what year) that is for sale not too far from me with ~250hrs, FEL and 60"MMM. They are asking $8800. It seems like a somewhat reasonable price, but I figured I would ask. I actually can probably only go to $8k, but didn't want to necessarily look like a jerk offering that to the guy.

All of the reviews of this tractor are great, but they are mostly old too since the 2230 stopped in 2006 I believe. Is a tractor that is 2004-2006 model year still a good deal? I would think it's fine. It's a diesel. And, what is the difference between a BX2230D and a BX2230?

Thanks in advance for any input. I am trying to go see it tomorrow.

There is plenty of life left in that tractor with only 250 hours on it. They hold their value well but I wouldn't be afraid to offer 8k. It's true that there is 0% now on new tractors but you will still be way above your wife's 8000 limit. presumably you would be paying cash for the used unit which still means no interest. As for 2230 vs 2230D, there is no difference.

We bought our BX2230 in 2005 and it has been a reliable workhorse. We are at about 700 hours with no repairs or mechanical issues. I'd give you this perspective to share with your wife. You can easily pay $3,000 for a lawn tractor. If you can buy that BX for under $9,000, I can comfortably promise you it is easily 3x more capable than anything you can buy at Sears, HD, etc., and with reasonable care should also last as long as 3 box store units.

If you can get it for 8K that is a good deal, a dealer would want 8K plus for tractor and deck with no FEL.

Once you have it do a full fluid and filter service on it, it will cost you about $65.00 for filters and $50.00 for fluids. You can use this to work the seller on price and I would do the work it even if the seller says its been done recently. This will give you a baseline for your maintenance and help you become familiar with your tractor.:2cents:

The price sounds good to me, I have a BX2200 the predecessor to that tractor and it has held up great.

I paid $12200 in 8-03 for a BX2200 MMM FEL. Posted this so some can see how tractors keep their value. The BXxx30 model was several dollars more. I did thousands of dollars worth of work with mine plus mowing several acres which would have cost major money if i could have even gotten anyone to do the job.
$8000 seems like a good deal and it will remain worth near that figure for years if you take care of it.
As TripleR says, no comparison to a box store mower which will only mow and are usually disposable and usually for smaller yards, well large yards of under an acre.:)

Thanks all. We are still kicking it around. We didn't get to go see the tractors this weekend due to time issues, but may try during the week or next weekend.

I did mention the 0% financing for new one to the wife and she didn't back away from the idea. Now I just have to decide. This is tougher than I though it would be :)

If that tractor is in the condition I would expect a tractor with 250 hrs the 8k is a great price. I mentioned the 0% because holding on to your 8k cash may be a more desirable option for you. If you don't need the 8k then jump on that price now.
