kubota bx2230
Have a new BX 2230. Approximately 20 hours so far. Anyway, have had the FEl for the last 15 hours. today, for the first time it began to run rought. Thought there might be air in the lines so I jimmied the bucket up and down and tilted the bucket back and forth. Machine ran rough when lifting and rolling bucket up. Checked transmission fluid and appeared to be a little low. Added about half a quart and the FEL began pewrforming more smoothly again. Question is, why is this thing eating transmission fluid? Second have I done any damage?
BTW, picked up my ROPS work lights and added them today.

Can someone give me some advice? need some help. Should I drain the fluid and change the filter and put in new fluid? Was going to wait til 50 hours but have the stuff to do it.

Give the forum some time, people will respond, but it is a little slower with the holidays. Folks are busier.
1/2 quart is nothing. Might not have even been low. You might have, or the dealer might have, checked it where it was not totally level. I sure would call the dealer first. Under warranty. check quick connects.

When running the FEL, your engine speed should be at least 3/4 to full throttle.

Assuming there are no leaks. Using the FEL and cycling the both up, down and rollback will remove all air that is in the system. There may have been some in the 3PH. Keep any eye on level for awhile until it stays full. If this only happened for a short time tractor should be OK.

Thanks, guys. Sorry about the initial posting frenzy- just don't want to screw up and damage the new baby. I will keep you all posted. Checked the level of the transmission and still seems low. After adding to the case, the lifting arms ran smoothly, the rolllback function was still "jerky" (rolling forward did not seem to be an issue). Checked the quick connects and they seem okay.

Check the unit for leaks. When mine was new I found a slightl leak under the front end at a couple of connections for the FEL plumming.

Also make sure your 3-point hitch lever is back to the center position as it can rob flow from the FEL if it is engaged.

Good luck,

The unit is leaking like a sieve from around the plumbing under the seat. Think I have it located. Now, the question is- do I attempt to locate the leak myself and repair, or do I have my dealer pick up and fix under warranty? Dealer says he will have to charge for pick up and delivery. I countered that they were supposed to deliver the tractor to start with and never did as I ppicked it up. If it has lost alot of fluid, then the cost of replacing the fluid would be as much as the pick up cost. This is crap- have only had the machine for three weeks.

Something like this should be a warranty repair. I know my dealer has a road repair truck that will come to your location to do repairs - they might not come for a couple of days though. Picking up the tractor is usually not covered by a lot of dealers - but I would think in this situation they should either send somebody out - at their expense - to fix the problem, or they should pick the tractor up and actually check it out this time before they give it back to you.

Frankly if it was me I would ***** a little to Kubota too - in the end it was really their fault that the tractor is in this condition, it should have been checked at the factory before it was shipped to the dealer. 20 hours is not even broken in yet and the argument could be made that the dealer could have reasonably expected the tractor to be delivered to them in working condition - I.E. not leaking all of it's hydraulic fluid out.

Not happy!!! Very Grumpy!!! Not a good way to start Christmas Eve day!!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Was going to show off the new baby to my father tomorrow- now cannot /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Do not believe I should have to eat anything on this fiasco.

Pickup and delivery is expressly NOT covered by the Kubota warranty . They (Kubota) leave covering that to the discretion of the dealer.

If you have the means to transport the tractor then why not just drop it off?

/ BX2230 FEL Question #15
As was stated earlier, ask if they have anyone that could come out to tighten and check connections. I don't bleme you for being ticked off about having to pay for transportation when this was probably leaking from day one. A call to Kubota seems in order. Was it cheaper to rent trailer then to pay Stealer for pickup and delivery? Check ALL of the connections before the Stealer does anything. Mine has developed a leak in one of the connections located on the side of the boom.

/ BX2230 FEL Question #16
My dealer is an hour away, but they wouldn't hesitate to come out to the house and work on my tractor. I have to laugh sometimes,as the only people who know the combination to our spare key lockbox is myself, my wife, and the Kubota dealer. Tell him to come fix it or you'll place a call to Kubota USA head office and they can direct him out to your residence. Express how he's ruined Christmas and your opportunity to gloat is gone forever. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Merry Christmas /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Any dealer worth their salt would take care of this without a charge. If they didn't they wouldn't be doing business with me any longer and everyone I knew would also know about it. I would make sure they were aware of that fact as well.

If you do fix it yourself, I would look to them for a few "freebies" to compensate for your time and aggravation.

I understand that issues happen, I had a few when I bought my unit. But a good dealer takes care of the problems and that is how you measure them.

I hope you get it fixed soon.

Glad to see that many of you do not feel that my disappointment/ anger was misdirected. Will let you know how this turns out. Hoping to get the baby fixed and back in good working order shortly. Father- in-law and I looked at it and believe that the pressure nut on the lower hydraulic line under the seat is the source of the leak. If this is so, soesn't the dealer plumb the lines for the FEL? If so this is the dealer's mistake, right? if this is the case, there better be NO CHARGE!!!!

/ BX2230 FEL Question #19
Since it's a 2230 and not a 23 then yes the dealer would be the one plumbing the lines. As not everyone is sold with a FEL. On the 23's they come as a TLB package so I would assume that is done at factory (not positive though). In any event, I still feel that a good dealer wouldn't balk at getting it right on a brand new tractor especially. If it was a year down the road, may be a different story and still great dealers would take care of it with someone at your place.

Keep us posted on the outcome.

After reminding the dealer that I had picked up the tractor when they were to deliver it due to the fact that they had no delivery trucks available as they were relocating, dealer decided to do the right thing. Sent a service guy out to look at tractor, determined that a piece of flared copper tubing that goes to the power steering was not properly flared, causing a bad seal and the pressure nut to slip right over the tube when tightened. Dealer picked tractor up, is to order part, repair and return by weekend. Dealer also will send tech rep out in Spring as previously promised to help remount mowing deck, take chains off and mount the rearbagger at no charge. Much happier. the only sad part is that Terrence (my four year old son named the Kubota after the orange tractor in Thomas the Tank Engine) is gone, leaving only a large strak of transmission fluid in the driveway. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
