bx2230, bx2750b snowblower maintenance

I was just checking over my snowblower, and I took off the chain cover to lubricate the chain and I noticed, the large upper sprocket was almost off the fan/auger shaft. I was lucky, the keyway was still there. So I pushed the sprocket back on with the keyway and tightened the 5/16 allen key. I also wet over the rest of the blower and checked the bolts for tightness. Anyway fellas, if your using your blower alot and love the way it preforms give it a check once in a while. It could save you a lot of money. And if anything is going to happen, it will happen 50 seconds after you start having fun blowin your drive. Have fun and let it snow.

Fortunate timing. Had the sprocket gone south while you were operating, you might really have "wet over the rest of the blower." /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Seriously, your experience points up a couple of things that it is a good idea to keep an eye on fairly frequently;

1) particularly on a new blower, check the chain tension frequently as the chain will expand a bit as it runs in;

2) oil the chain periodically w/light motor oil; the snow tends to wear it off;

3) keep the chute rotation gears greased; I just brush some on from a pot of grease that I keep handy when it looks to be getting spotty

4) the Puma manual says to grease all zerks every 8 operating hours.
