Hi

The specs on the BX2200 say the tractor has about 6 inches of clearance. I would like to use it on my woodlot. Are there larger tires which I could put on the BX2200 to get more ground clearance? Would these larger/higher tires create a more unstable machine?

Spud,

You could probably figure out how to fit larger wheels on the front but I don't think you would be happy with the 4 wheel drive operation/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Since your looking, take a look at the banner at the top of the page for "Compact Tractor Guide". It is almost instantly available as a download. The price for the guide is pretty good insurance to help with your buying decision. Try similar tractors with better ground clearance like the B7500 also don't overlook the green and blue ones JD4100 and TC18/21.

Spud,

Taller tires will not work on th BX. They will not fit under the rear finder well. Been there, done that.

Do you think I would have any problem in the woods with a 6" clearance? Most of the area can be handled easily with my ATV, but it has a 9" clearance. Really like the size and style of the BX2200.

Spud,

Part of my property is wooded and one little trick I use is to keep the FEL closer to the ground than 6". It is safer, preventing roll over and it works like a bumber. Just keep it slow or you will have a sore neck in the morning if you hit a stump.

Spud,
I've been using my BX2200 in my woods for some time now. I've had no problems. Of course, you are not going to drive over a 12" log but you probably would not do that with a larger tractor anyway. I have driven over smaller logs --3-4" with no problem. The tractor will not yank out stumps or dig out even small 2" trees. But I doubt the JD4100 or some of the other compacts could either. Where I find my BX helpful is lossening the trees so I can chop them out with an ax. The biggest help though is after you cut them down. I use the FEL to push the whole tree into a pile without the trouble of cutting it up into managable sizes to move by hand.
