Hi All - I 've been watching this site for a couple of weeks and gathering some very useful info. Thank you. I'll get straight to the chase I'm looking to purchase a sub-compact and have pretty much narrowed it down to the bx1500(new-FEL & 54"mmm) or bx2200('03 32 hrs., 60"mmm, 5' rear blade & log splitter). I can get the 2200 for $8,800 from friend. Local dealer wants $2600 including tax and install for FEL. This puts me at $11,400 for the 2200. Quote for the 1500 as listed above came in at 10,500 tax included. Question, is the 1500 a major drop off from the 2200? and do these prices seem in line. I would get he 2200 no problem if I could get the FEL price down some. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Live in SE WI, 3 acres ; 1 acre to mow balance field and woods. Tool/Model Maker.

carona4,
I can only comment about what other bx owners have said. I have a BX23, so I cannot compare to the 1500. However, I have read very little about guys with the 1500 being unhappy with it. I would think that the 60' mower would be better and you can shop around for a loader a bit. Personally, I would go with the bx2200. By the way, Why is your friend selling an '03 bx2200?

He's selling because he has toooo many toys. Also I've shopped around as much as I can in my area for he FEL and $2600 was as low as I could find. I'm just wondering if there is any wiggle room.

Really can't help you with that. My loader came with the BX23. Still sounds like a reasonable deal for the 2200

Welcome to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

5' rear blade & log splitter

If these 2 attachments are ones that you would use. I would think the BX2200 is a better deal.

The BX1500 will have 0% finance rate. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

With any tractor more Horsepower is a plus. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

7 HP is a big jump in power. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The price jump to a new 2230 is not that much, you might want to barter with your friend some. Also zero percent financing could get you some free money for awhile.

I would seriously look at the 2200. The 15 to me is just under powered?? That is only my thinking. Others would say it will do the job. But 7 HP is a major difference. The other thing I would say is and this is only based on other post is the 54" mmm on the Kubota is not that good. The 60" MMM is a much nicer mower. As far as pricing, I can't give you much on that as I just don't know. You may want to check around on that used 22 and see how it compares new.

Which dealers in SE. wis? I am from Wis. too. I looked at the Janesville dealer, but wound up buying from McFarlanes in Sauk City. The same place I bought my B7500 from in 2001. Call them and get a quote for a loader. They put one on my B7500 for $2500, 2 years ago.

I'm in west bend area. So far I've tried mid-state in jackson, Feldmans in howards grove ,tractor loader service in waukesha and Lochen in Newburg. Lochen has been the best in price and customer relations so I would really like to deal w/ them plus they are close by. What gets me is the range of price for install from $100 to $350?? I'm going to try to contact Lochen again to see if they can sharpen their pencil a little. seemed like very nice people. Wish I could say that for the rest.

I would go for the extra horse power. If the loader price is the stumbling block, then see if you can purchase it as "parts" and install it yourself. It looks pretty straight forward of a project from what I can see. If the dealers are looking for $350 for the install, they are probably figuring about $75 per hour, so it will take them about 4.5 hours to install it. If you do it yourself, you can double that amount of time, because of inexperience, but in the end, you will have saved that labor cost. I don't know if the figures that they have given you include sales tax, but that is another thing to consider. If that is in the quoted figure, then the price seems reasonable. A few weeks ago there was a new uninstalled loader for sale on e bay. You might want to read that post for any information that may help you.

Corona4.

I have just a shade more property than you do...

Last year I decided I wanted to replace the RFM on my B2910 with a small tractor with MMM.

Since I already had a "real" tractor, it did not matter if I bought the BX1500 or 1800 or 2200.

After looking at them all, I decided that the BX2200 (now 2230) gave me the most for the dollar. I am glad I went with it. I would do it again...and again...and again...whoops! Starting to sound like that battery bunny! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I think the question really is what do you intend to do with those woods? The BX1500 will handle the acre of grass faster than you want it too. The BX2200 would even faster with a 60" deck. Heck, I have to sneak over and mow some of my neighbors place with my BX just to make it feel like it was worth turning the mower blades, as I only cut about an acre myself right now.

In the end I guess it is what you can afford that matters the most. Any bx is a pleasure to use compared to the normal garden or lawn tractor, and much more capable too.

Not knowing what your needs are, I'd ask "whats your gut telling you"? THe 1500 will do plenty, this is a fact. The BX will do more, this is a fact. HP, traction, weight.. on and on. They used to make an 1800. It was the same tractor with a slightly lower HP motor. Almost nobody went with it, opting for the 22 instead. So why they thought a completly scaled down one with even less HP would be attractive,... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Actually, I guess it might appeal to 1/2 acre guys. But for me and my 3/4 acres /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif only the 2200 will do. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Henro, if I land this 3.2 acre lot accross the street I'll have a bit more dirst than you. So I asked my wife if I could have a 2910 and she said.. Well, lets just say I've had one deleted already this month, so I can't tell you what she said. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I have moved quite a bit of dirt with my 2200. I find that I'm wanting more HP and more power to do that task. I certainly wouldn't want less, like the 1500.

So my recommendation is if you plan to move much dirt or do much tillage type work, go with the larger unit.

My two cents........

i could be wrong about this, but isn't the 1500 a 2 cylinder and the 2200 a 3 cylinder?? the dealer i talked to about a 2230, suggested going up to the 3 cylinder because it was a smoother engine...

I have a BX2200. There are several attachments I use that a BX1500 wouldn't power. I wish I had just a few more hp at the PTO so I could run a better chipper & generator than it can handle. You can always throttle down if you think you're putting too much energy into something using the 2200 but you could never squeeze 7 more hp out of the 1500. It always pays to have as much hp as possible within any class of tractor. I'd even think about going with the BX23 if you think you might ever need a backhoe. Heehaw is right about the 2 vs. 3 cylinders & the smoothness.

Hey Boys-
Thanks for all the input. I've decided to go with the the '03 BX2200($8,800) not only because of the extra power but I can really put the log splitter and rear blade to good use. Also like the idea of not paying tax on something new. Probably won't get FEL right away, but I know once the tractor is here and I'm staring at it w/out FEL I'll have a itch that will need to be scratched very soon. Wife has other ideas. Thanks again for input and will let ya know when its here, hopefully in a couple weeks. Need to sell my JD 318 first.

Two things, $11,500 for a 2230 with loader and mower is below cost, I would not expect to see that around.

The deere 318 that you are trying to get rid of will do really well on eBay. That green paint has a huge impact on there, you will get a nice price for it. I run most of our green equipment on eBay, things consistantly bring more than they should.
