How much can you lift? I sometimes can't get the loader off the ground or even curl the bucket after I drive into a low pile of dirt mixed with weeds. These are left over from piles of spring tooth cleanings. I dragged a field last year and made some piles. Any ideas why it wouldn't lift it? I have had full buckets of stone, topsoil and it worked fine. Sometimes it just won't lift or curl back, if I rock the tractor back a bit it will break it loose and spill some then it seems ok.

Thanks

Do you have enough RPM's? Also if you are trying to pick up dirt with a bunch if long stem weeds in it they could be spreading their strength out to a wide area...... Like trying to pry a bunch of roots out of the ground. I usually kind of fluff up the pile and then scoop up a load...

They are a great too but have their limits. Just my thoughts. Tom

I've found that if your 3pt lever isn't in the detent (centered) that power will be bled from the system, preventing you from having all you need up front. The other thing is you can get a bit more of a boost by putting your range shifter in Neutral, as it also bleeds some power even if you aren't moving at the time. Toothbars will also help when digging into piles of dirt, especially when you have flora growing on it....

My soil is sandy/loamy and I can pick up a full bucket from a dirt pile w/ 3/4 throttle. However, if I am scooping it up from the ground for the first time it's a different story. I have to 'fannagle' it up w/ much pushing, lifting and curling and I probably won't get a full bucket, more like 1/2 bucket.

It sounds as if the weeds/heavy soil are providing more force than the loaders breakout force. I find it helps to move the tractor back and forth a little to break the pile up more. A lot of times I'll also use the FEL to knock the pile down/break it up before I start moving it, especially if its been there a while and has been packed by rain (it still rains sometimes in Texas)
