Interesting thread, from start to finish. We've still got the
L3400, but might be looking for something else in a few years. We keep two horses, which means running a PHD from time to time, mowing pastures, etc. It pulls a two bottom plow for vegetable gardens, and a double disc to prep seed beds and the gardens for planting. Moves the occasional round bale, though we prefer small square bales.
Once we retire, and hypothetically get out of the horse game, maybe I'm dreaming on that... I can see a smaller machine. Probably a
BX25, always wanted a hoe.
We talked the other day about a cabbed tractor for moving snow when it's miserable out. I spent a couple hours in freezing drizzle plowing some neighbours out a week or so ago. They needed the job done, they're good friends, and I wasn't going to leave them shoveling to get in their drive at midnight. Would have been a lot more pleasant job in a heated cab with a radio, though.
Like BP says, our needs evolve as we go along.
