BX water trap

I have a BX 1800. It has 600 hours on it. Recently I bought a Kubota KX 41 excavator. The KX 41 has an engine about the same size as the BX 1800. One difference in the set up is the KX has a glass trap for water incorporated as part of the fuel filter system. The BX doesn't. Also the maintenance for the KX calls for the water to be drained from the fuel filter as well as out of the bottom of the fuel tank on a regular basis. Anyone have any idea why one machine would need this kind of care and not the other? Would it simply be the BX was produced to cheaper specs so the water trap was not included. If so would it be advisable to improve the water extraction from the fuel system to improve engine life? I remember the farm tractors if my youth had the water traps on them.

My guess is that the KX will sit idle more weeks during the year compared to the BX. I will also guess that the KX (on average) would be refueled from large above ground tanks or truck mounted tanks which might have condensation troubles.

For my B2400, I always add a diesel fuel additive to my fuel tank during every refueling cycle. That way, I won't have any gelling or water problems. Over the last 6 years, I've had no water problems when I was properly using the fuel additive. One February I did have water start icing up in the fuel bowl but after emptying it and placing a dose of additive in it, everything was fine.

I follow this general rule for every refuling; summer too.
