BX Sold, Time For B2320

Some of us have had BX's for awhile and maybe forgot our old Craftsman riding mowers but put them side by side and anyone will see they are not alike in any way other that basic shape and one of them mows only.:D

I'll admit to shooting my mouth off on my BX .....
A mower is a mower , and many thousands of BX's
wouldn't sell if they were just MMM queens.

No, but on the other hand the ratio of those sold with the MMM has got to be enormously high. So, mowing is certainly on the minds of most buyers of the BX. I was a bit of an odd ball in that I did not buy an MMM. I used an RFM instead. That RFM will now be used on my B2320.:thumbsup:

Just guessing based on guys here on TBN, (and who knows if this is a true cross cut sample, but one would think so) a much, much lower percentage of B series go out with MMMs mounted on them. I would guess this:

The vast majority of BXs are sold with MMM.
The majority of B series are not sold with MMM.

Those "drive-over" B series MMM decks are a really good idea.
It really wouldn't have taken much effort to build the BX MMM
with the same feature . Did you have a HST fan guard on the
BX ?
My Dealer doesn't have any B's with a MMM , and no BX's without one !

Chuck - what 2nd set of holes are you referring to? I am out of town and I cant picture them.

On the lower lift arms there are two holes on each side that the lifting links can attach to. One set being closer to the tractor which allows the arms to drop a little lower. Most tractors I've seen have the extra holes in the lifting links, but not the B. Sorry, it's late, and I don't have the proper description.

Being in the minority here....I did not order a mmm, rfm, and really never intend to mow anything with my BX. I realize that the BX is a great mower, but I bought mine for the loader and the diesel engine, the three point was just an extra bonus as I have had two different loader tractors over the years that had no three point. I have about 400 ft of sandy drive, and a small property that is primarily woods that I like to mantain atv trails on. My barn is a woodshop that stays fairly busy, so I do not have room for a larger unit, and still keep it inside. I'm definitely one of the indoor storage guys. I have tractor envy pretty bad when I see a B series, but everytime I use my BX for the needs I have I'm reminded of why I purchased such a small tractor.

Yes, my BX was indeed my tractor. It pushed snow efficiently and powerfully. Great in tight quarters!!! It pulled my utility trailer loaded with a ton of gravel. All that was pretty good.

But when I plowed with my middle buster, one set of wheels are in the bottom of the previous furrow. Ooops! Or when I dug my potato crop, you have to straddle hilled rows. (see photo) It was in these applications that I was constantly bottoming out the BX. Here is where the ground clearance limitations were magnified and proved insurmountable. Forget cultivating taller plants.

Oh sure, all the bigger lines of tractors have even more clearance, but such machines would be highly inefficient in tight quarters and far too heavy, of course. The B simply hits the sweet spot, for my use. Insignificantly heavier, and no longer, and no wider while providing much greater ground clearance. All plusses. The Bxx20 series is indeed, still a very small tractor.

It's the Goldi-Locks phenomenon.

Some day, it would be nice if there was a tractor that could do it all/correctly....

Don

Like the perfect handgun, size of an old Browning .25 ACP, power of a .44 Mag and recoil of a .22, it just doesn't exist.

Thanks for the reply Chuck - mine does have the other holes. Does yours not have them?

I thought the all B machines have the two sets of holes. I have them on my B7800 and if memory serves me right it was the same on my B7510. Can't speak for the B2x20 series tho.
