BX Seat Safety Switch

I saw another post regarding the seat safety switch being a PITA on the BX series, and thought I'd share my method of fixing it.

My tractor used to sputter frequently while running over bumpy ground, or when backing up, as my weight would shift forward off of the seat. I'm only 145 lb on a good day.

Anyway, the metal arm that pushes down on the safety switch is "doubled", i.e. there are two similar if not identical plates bolted together. They're made of steel, and are chemically treated (not galvanized) to a goldish appearance. These are supposed to provide some travel so that the switch remains activated even as it springs up and down a bit.

By removing one just one of them, the seat switch works flawlessly for both myself and my wife. This allows it to work as intended, while solving all of the stalling issues.

I apologize for my somewhat cryptic description of the part, but I did this mod two/three years ago, shortly after I got the tractor.

Thanks Jesse. I'll try it. I'm lightweight too and have the same problem with engine stutter as I bounce over a bump. It is irritating to the point I want to disconnect the switch all together. Maybe your fix will help (and adjust my attitude as well).

This was another irritation with the BX2350 I had before trading it to a BX2660. I'm over 200 lbs and have hillside property and going down hill I would have to pay alot of attention to lean back all the time. When my wife drove it it sputtered all over the yard. My BX2200, BX1500 and BX2660 do/did not have this problem. Glad to see an easy fix.

Again, the lever was doubled-up - one right on top of the other, and only connected by the two mounting bolts.

I wonder if the Kubota folk used multiple lever/springs as a means of calibration? Though that doesn't make sense either, as that would imply that only one lever, with a heavy operator, would result in a different problem. Otherwise, they'd only use one lever for everyone(?)

I removed mine about a year ago. Haven't had any problems except on really uneven ground. Removing one of the plates is a easy fix.

I did the same mod to my 2350 a couple of years ago. The engine now runs and kills when I think it should.

I have a BX2350, I'll have to try it. I'm a big guy and I still have problems with it killing now and then. Thanks for the pics, that really helped.

I'm going to try this too. I have short legs and if I try to turn around in the seat when backing up the switch shuts me down.

Get the storage bag from BXpanded Seat Back Storage Bag, fill it with clips, a few wrenches, and a big screwdriver, and the seat switch won't bother you any more!

It's in the seat on the newer BX 1860 tractors also. It's the pits in cold weather, the seat gets a little wet then freezes and you can't move your tractor Good part is a 3" jumper wire fixes it right up

I removed the whole medieval seat and replaced it with a Grammer seat. Now I can get out of bed in the morning after a day of mowing.
Never hooked up that **** switch again.

I'm assuming the Grammer seat installation required some mods? I don't know of any that are strict bolt-ons, but if there is one, enlighten me!

It came with a steel plate. I used longer bolts and some spacers. Was not that hard. The seat latch had to be bent a bit, and It's harder to get at.
The seat is very nice. and is adjustable for your weight.
