BX owners - front end question

On my BX2200, I just noticed that the steering cylinder (I guess that's what it's called) on the left side where it connects to the ball joint assembly, the cylinder has about an eigth of an inch of unfinished material before it enters what looks like a big, oddshaped nut. On the right side, this unfinished material is about a quarter of an inch. Most everything else looks symmetrical - Anyone have the time to take a look at their BX? Thanks!

Same here too; it doesn't go into the cylinder that far.

I suspect your cylinder rod is made from a casting or (more likely) a forging that is turned down to the correct diameter for the length required for actuation. The rest of the rod isn't required to be turned for the usage of the part, hence the raw looking appeareance.

RoyJackson- I agree with you. The more process or time it takes to make the more expensive. I also agree it is a investment casting and then OD ground. Why grind it longer then needed.
