BX oil pan leak

The oil pan on my bx23 (bought used with 240 hours) is leaking. I haven't bought the service manual yet and need to know if the pan can come out the bottom without lifting the engine. I got the front axle out and it looks like there is room but am worried how low the pan has to go to clear the crank. Any help would be appreciated.

From the drawings in the service manual, you will have to clear the oil strainer. It attaches to the block with one screw, and extends down to the bottom of the oil pan. If you can drop the pan enough to get a wrnch in there, you could probably get the strainer to come off with the pan, but reassembing it would be more difficult.

Is the oil pickup in the front or rear? Looks like rear (deep part of pan).

It connects to the block in the middle, toward the front, between pistons 1 and 2 (1 being the piston in the front), on the right side of the engine. The screen/pickup is toward the rear, or flywheel end. All of this is dependant on the flywheel being toward the rear.

Thanks. Went to the dealer to get the gasket and parts and shop manual (neither in stock). Talked to the servive manager and figured out the engine has to come out. He said he has never had to do one. Looks like someone really cranked down on the pan bolts and pushed the gasket out in a few spots. I got some tractor stuff to do so am gon'na put it all back together and run it a bit before pulling the engine. Got to clear a spot in the garage for that. it's not a pressure leak so I don't feel too bad about running it but it sure does make a mess.
