Oil & Fuel BX Oil filter problem

Put it in perspective. If you are changing oil filters every month or so even a $2 difference in price is only $24 per year.

If it is a matter of principle then it is a mental/emotional issue rather than an economic one.

Wow! They (whoever they is) want $8 for an oil filter for your Kubota? I don't blame you for not buying from them. Glad my dealer doesn't charge any where near that much or try to charge that much. Maybe you need to check with other dealers or online or just buy from where ever your buying from. The last Kubota filter I bought was about the same price as the off brand at a auto parts store. I believe under $4 but my memory may be off.

JT, that $8 price is pretty universal, even Messick gets that much, and shipping? I would like very much to buy Kubota brand filters for less than $8 but don't see how or where. As for the HST filter, well, that's around $12 or more. At least that is only 3 or 4 times over the average life of ownership, or much less if you trade often as some people do, I hear. :D

I agree but in the last 1.5 years the prices have doubled on filters...

My post is whay gets me is my cars use Amsoil EaO oil filters (last 25K miles)and they are WAYYYYY better quality and about 8 to $11 each...Better hsg, better media etc and they dictate the price.

Kubota is again a joke at $8 plus sh/han for a little filter. And I have used Puralator and Wix and seen almost 100% the same UOA....Kubota must make very little margin on units but 10X that profit on parts/oils. STill look for a hst filter and I am out of their filters 100%.

Now it has been a while since I bought a filter because they only have to be changed after 50 hours and my last 2 (BX2350 & L3240HST+) never made that before they found new homes.:) My current 3 have first service filters/fluids to be provided by you know who that gets my purchase money so I'm not going to know the cost of fluids and filters for quite awhile. Actually all 3 of mine are going to need 50 hour service early next season (mowing). We don't get enough snow to start one in the winter.

You guys are funny. You spend $15,000 on a tractor and ***** about an $8 oil filter that get replaced once or twice a year.

But does the money on a expensive filter mean you gain anything? For me, price is not the issue if I SEE results in UOA's and construction. So far, Kubota filters are WAY over priced and over used.

Lastly, if price was an issue I would not be using Amsoil in all fluid apps.

I had posted this before, but I guess it needs said again. If you have a Kubota filter on your Kubota tractor and the filter fails you'll be getting warrenty coverage without question from Kubota. If you happen to throw a napa filter on there and it colapses you're going to have a heck of a time getting reembursment. We have seen this happen more than once. Many of these cross referened filters are not made for industrual applications, and those that are (fleetguard) are often more expensive. I can't see why on earth the risk you run is worth the $3 you save.

Yup and most dealers push this (car dealers etc). Problem is the end caps are the same as most, anti-drain back is the same, by-pass etc. Point is you are not getting anything for the delta in price. Heck, the UOA I have are almost the same.

Example: I pay 50K for a Lexus GS and they want $150 for oil changes...So I get a group 3 oil and a oil filter (made by Denso) for what? Profit here big time.

Heck, my last Bx22 had a dealer air filter that had fleetgard #'s on it. Even if a customer had a bota filter do you think that will trust it? What is the duration, install date.....? They will pull a UOA here since slips do not mean much.

I would not mind paying the price for a bota filter if it showed something. So far, nothing they sell (fluids or filters) are nothing "out there"...

Last time I went to the dealer to buy a kubota filter. I got home and it was actually a STERNS which cost the same as the Kubota filter. When I asked the dealer about it, he said yeah that is what they are selling now!

That was indeed the last time I bought a "kubota" filter!

Get ready to yell everyone..... Now I use a FRAM Tough Guard from Wal*Mart and it works.

but why does everone knock the orange can? So it has cardboard endcaps. Out of millions sold tell me 5 people that have had direct issues with Fram? Heck in on auto I own 16 years that is all I have used and UOA say they work fine.

/ BX Oil filter problem #53
I agree. Everone knows them for poor endcaps but most times 99.999999% cannot show that is caused anything..

I have used almost every filter on the market and outside of amsoil (donaldson) you will not see a diff in UOA's.

is donaldson the exclusive filter maker for amsoil?

They make Amsoil Ea Oil filters. So yes, BUT these were not the same makers as their older SDF filters.
