Kubota B2910, BX2200, KX41-2V mini EX
When I was researching my first tractor purchase early last summer I was kind of put off by the BX spec of something like 6.5 inches for ground clearance. As a matter of fact...that may be one important reason I ended up with a B2910.

This afternoon I was in the shed and looked at my bx2200 [which I bought this Summer as a little sister to my B2910] sitting there without the MMM...sure looks like a lot more than six inches under there I thought.

A quick measurement with the tape measure showed about 12 inches below the frame. Now the linkage from which the MMM hangs [MMM is not on the tractor at the moment] is about 6.5 inches above the ground. But the frame is much higher...and if there was no MMM that linkage would not be there...

A measurement of the rear transmission housing showed it to be about 7 inches above the shed floor. But my B2910 which has a published ground clearance of about something like 14+ inches has about 12 inches under the rear housing...

I guess what I am trying to say is that it looks to me like the published 6.7 [just checked the Kubota site] inches of ground clearance for the BX Kubotas is kind of misleading...Even though it may be technically correct...but then my B2910 must be wrong...I certainly do not have 14.7 inches under my rear housing...

Is there a specification for how ground clearance is measured? I'm sure there is...and also sure that not everyone follows it. But it sure seems like 6.7 inches does misrepresent the reality of the BX series...

Anyone have any comments?

What type of tires was the 14" with, and what type do you have?

Bill:

You haven't hit anything with the undercarriage have you??

From looking at your property, I don't think you have to worry about ground clearance other than if the tractor rolls down the hill out back, that you will fit underneath without being hit by something hanging down!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Personally, I think ground clearance would be determined by tire type. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'd be willing to bet that Kubota measures tire clearance with R1 tires at maximum inflation pressure. Your turfs would be quite a bit lower than R1's. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

R4 on the b2910 and turf on the BX2200... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That was what I was thinking.

I personally don't believe anything Kubota mentions when they convert to inches or quarts or anything else. Nothing in their manual is right when you are changing oil, HST fluid or anitfreeze. Their calculator is way off.
They probably measure using the Ag tires at max inflation as was already mentioned. Sort of like televisions and their diagonal measurements!

I think some things just get lost in the translation! For the most part Kubota is a modest company as far as boasting so I will say it might be the tires for the B-2910 being different.

The BX bar tires (not really R1s) are only "slightly" bigger than the turfs...just enough to interfere with the MMM at max height if improperly adjusted, but not enough to matter on Henro's measurement.

Actually I was just using the B2910 for comparison. It is pretty close to what is specified...

But the BX looks like it is REALLY out of the ball park. When I was first looking to buy that 6.7 inchs of ground clearance sounded like it was where the frame was...which is not the case.

The reason I even thought of this today was because in another thread someone mentioned that a similar tractor [forget the brand now] had a lot more ground clearance than the BX Kubota. I wonder how this would likely be possible unless the other brand had some kind of protal axles on the rear, which I doubt.

If ground clearance is determined by the clearance under the rear drive, then rear tire size in most cases would seem to dictate what the general ground clearance is [since the axle is in the center of the wheel]...and since sub compacts are unlikely to have huge rear tires, ground clearance would appear to be about the same amongh brands for similar models...more or less.

6.7 inches VS 12.0 seems like a HUGE difference...perhaps equating to 12 inches VS 22 on a larger tractor. Or something like that... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I wish Kubota was on my side when I bragged about my ***** size to my prospective wife. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Now, she knows better. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
