OK I'll jump in here.

I have no idea what a BX 2200 is (although I think every second person here has one) and I have no idea what the button is.

Interesting enough when shopping for ride-on mowers recently they told me that all the US models do not allow you to engage reverse with the mower blades engaged.

All our models allow us to do that.

So the US imports have a button or key switch under the seat to allow us to disconnect that function and allow us to mow in revserse.

Hey maybe we live on the edge a little more over here.

Cheers

That is the first thing I do when I get a riding mower, disable the switch that won't let you mow in reverse. It has to be the stupidest safety feature included on a mower.

What you referred to as the red button is actually a breather for the tractor rear end. The two wires are for the extra worklight kit that is available as an option. Don't hook the two wires together or you will end up blowing a fuse.

I suggest you ask the dealer about this button to know what it is. It may also be noted in your manual...I suggest you read the Operator Manual again.

However, I think it's part of your safety interlock system. This may stop the tractor if you fall off, or prevent starting if you're not on the seat.
I have a black button (switch) under the seat. It is part of the safety system of the tractor.

BY THE WAY I LIVE IN CANADA.
AND WHAT YOU ARE TELLING ME IS IF I CONECT THE WIRES I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MOW IN REVERSE
BUT WHAT ABOUT THIS RED BUTTON????????/
THANX KEVIN

What they are telling you is if you connect the wires togeather YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO MOW AT ALL!!! They are part of an optional lighting kit and provide power to that system. One wire is ground (negative earth to you) the other is positive. If you connect them, you will cause a direct short and either blow a fuse or burn up some wires.I agree with the guy who suggested you talk to the dealer and reread the manual.

that is not a button but a vent cap over a breathing hole for the rear end / transmission so just leave it alone.

Kevin, That litle quip about taking your brain to work is part of HawkFlier's signature, it is on all of his posts. He wasn't attacking you.

Red Button: ie: Direct line to the Kremlin!

...(negative earth to you)... huh??

The only times I have heard this terminology used in Canada is by people who emigrated from the UK or were educated in the UK. The term in common useage is ground.

P.S. Kevin C.D. - you don't need to SHOUT. Turn the caps off, please.

The red button is a vent cap cover and the wires are an aux circuit for lights or an accessory. DO NOT connect the Red and Black wire, you will blow a fuse.
By the way, this aux circuit works great to power extra lighting on your BX.

Kevin - The "Brain" comment is in fact part of the signature on all my posts. It was not directed at you, it is a general truth. As for "Negative Earth", all of my Canadian friends speak and use "Kings" english, rather than the Americanized version, and most of the manuals for their stuff reflect this fact. I was not attacking you, I was trying to help. The emphasis was placed on things so you would not do something to damage an expensive piece of equipment by shorting out some or all of the electrical system. I am sorry if you found this offensive. My writing style tends to be lighthearted and I suppose some might not like that. I never yell, I just use caps to draw attention to important parts of a post. I would still suggest you not connect those wires togeather, but it's your tractor.

Kevin, he was not making fun, he always says that--yes--he does.
Also, the BX does not have a reverse lockout feature like a riding mower does, you can mow backwards or even upside down if you wish. Also, the BX mower blades do not disengage if you get out of the seat. This is true of most utility tractors but not true of lawnmowers.
The two wires are for an auxilary lighting circuit and the "red button" is a cap/plug, not a button at all.
good luck with your new BX. (d)
