BX 22 Shifter Problem Question......

I have a difficult time getting my BX out of either slow or fast with the shift lever. I have to pull on it and wiggle it before it will come out of gear sometimes. I also have had the same problem with the 4 wheel shifter lever also. Sometimes moving the machine a few feet in either forward or reverse will cause the lever to relax and shifting will be easier. I never have trouble getting it into gear. Is this normal or is mine defective. It has been like this since new and the dealer said that it would get better with use. Sometimes it seems like the lever will break off before it comes out of gear. The shift lever doesn't line up correctly with the neutral mark on the fender either. Dealer also said that is normal. My low and high selector has always been smooth.
The 4WD selector is sometimes hard to get out of 4WD if I am stopped. If I am moving (slow speed) it seems to work smoothly 90% of the time.

The only lever that is hard to shift is the PTO selector. It is also missaligned. WD40 improved the shifting somewhat but it is still not smooth.

The tractor does not have a synchromesh transmission. If the teeth are opposed to one another it cannot go into gear. Coming out of gear I sometimes have a similar problen=m and I just step on the peadl to move the tractor slightly and try again--sometimes it takes several tries. Mine has gotten easier but every now and then it is stubborn. The 2410 does the same thing but it has a clutch so I put it in neatral and let out the clutch to rotate the gears into another position and try again etc. J

If I am not mistaken the owners manual says to step on the brake for this problem. What good that does, don't ask me. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I don't have that problem.

I do have the problem going into gear. This is corrected by stepping on the go pedal so the gears line up as recommended in the manual.

Both my BX2200 and the BX23 had this problem. I found that if I hit the pedal in neutral and then let it come back to the center I was able to slide the selectors. I wonder if this isn't related to the pedal not coming back the center correctly. Both my tractors creep if I don't double check the pedal before I get off the tractor.

spray the linkage where it connects to the transmission with wd-40 or equivalent. it will be good as new. I could not get mine to shift out of low, sprayed it and now it does not stick at all.

I'll have to try the WD40 trick...why not, it fixes everything else. My problem on my BX2200 is sometimes I'll forget to take it out of gear before shutting down. Then its a real bear to get it into neutral to start. It feels like I'm going to break the shift lever.

this should work even if you turn the tractor off first. it appears that the linkage by the neutral safety switch binds, and after it is sprayed you should be able to shift it anytime.

All my shift levers on my bx22 are fine except the PTO has some resistance at times.

But my 4wd is very smooth.

My BX 22 was way too hard to get in and out of 4WD and low/high both when it was new. It's fine now with about 60 hours on it. I did nothing to make it work more freely...

Can't say the same for my HST pedal.

And my aircleaner bracket broke with 0.1 hours on the tractor /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Still love it though!
