BX 22 Bucket Hooks

It will weld 1/4" plate in one pass and over 1/4" in more than one. I bought it a few years ago to replace a smaller MIG I had and cost about $950.00 with a full tank of gas.

My Hobart 120 has amazed me with what it is capable of doing. The largest project being a new tongue on a dual axle trailer.
The learning curve was rather painless and quite enjoyable. About $600 six yrs ago. 110 and 15 or so amps means you can use it anyplace.
Good luck Jay T

I used 1 3/4" chunk of steel (put it between the two bucket supports in the center)
Drilled through it and the bucket.
Used (2) grade 5 1/2" bolts and fender washers to hold it on. Bucket will break before the hook comes off.
Much more secure than a poorly welded hook.
Just my 2 cents.

I have one hook on each side, but always wrap the chain around both when lifting or pulling with the FEL. This distributes the weight evenly. It also makes it easy to keep the chain handy by wrapping it around both hooks and leaving it on top of the bucket!

Here is a picture of the end hooks..... In the first picture you can see the reinforcement that was added to accommodate the end hooks... I find that both the end ones and the single center one serve different uses. I wouldn't be without all of them....

Those hooks sure come in handy. Junkman may have a reason he used the slip style hook in the center. Typically, I'd use the link style he used on the ends, sized for the chain you'll be using. That way you can grab a link in the chain, instead of having to have a loop to grab.

My reasoning was that it would be quick and handy when using straps. All of my chains have hooks on the end, so it is an easy thing to just hook them. I prefer to use nylon straps whenever possible, because they are easier to work with when you are working alone... Hate having deal with a 15' chain when 4' would be enough....

I figured that was the reason.

That is why I have a chain shortener. It is two grab hooks with about 5-6 links of chain between them. You use it to take up excess chain. It works really well.

Here is how I did mine. I sometimes use straps rather than chain and these hooks lend themselves better for that. I put on two just to distribute the load a little.

JC Whitney: Item 81SB3477R Chrome Tow Hook Set
Quantity of 1 Total Price:$14.99.

I took a cut off wheel on my die grinder and cut off the excess bolt length, but that still leaves the ny-lock nuts on the inside of the bucket. I don't expect this to be a problem but if it is I will replace them with carriage bolts from the inside.

Hmmm, do carriage bolts come in grade 5 or better?

BTW, the hooks do not touch the front lip by about 1/8".

If you have a Tractor Supply Store near you you can get them there also. Not sure of the price of chromed hooks but it should be competitive. I bought a black painted one for my trailer that cost about $10 per hook. Some auto part stores also carry these hooks for truck applications as well.

Carriage bolts are available in Grades 2 and 5, as well as 18/8 Stainless Steel from Lawson Products. They generally sell through local area sales agents (although you may be able to buy directly on-line).

They also have booths at many farm shows, and will be at the New York State Farm Show in Syracuse, NY 2/26 - 2/28.

My only relationship with the company is as a satisfied customer.
