bx 1500 step replacement

The step assembly is rusting out on my bx1500(9 years old) I was looking to replace it. The assembly( part #K2561-95510) runs around $252(includes mat and bolts etc) Looks like I could do it, only issue I can see is clearing the differential lock pedal. The HST pedal can be unbolted then its mount will clear as well as the parking brake.
SO all you wonderful Kubota experts, open to any and all input.

Post some pics of the rusted area and I am sure you will have some new ideas on how to replace/fix and even improve the step. Are you referring to the operator platform?

Do you weld? Maybe even weld a patch in, then cover the platform with truck bed liner????
