I had a tractor part break and needed it replaced as quick as possible. I found that it was not available locally. EBay didn't have it listed either, so I searched online sites. I found several sites where I could order it.

MISTAKE #1
I ordered it without checking whether they ACTUALLY had it in stock. If I had asked, I could have ordered it from another listing that DID have it in stock. They accepted my order but did not tell me it would be back ordered.

MISTAKE #2
If I had known early enough that they did not have it in stock, I could have requested that they have their distributor drop-ship the part straight to me instead of shipping it to the dealer and then him ship it to me. That could have saved a week. Now it's going to be at least 10 days, if not longer, to get it.

I recently ordered a Maytag washing machine timer. The dealer had it drop-shipped straight to me instead of to him. Savvy dealers like to do that so they don't have to pay 2nd shipping charge. It arrived in less than 48 hours. You can believe I will trade with that dealer again. :)

I've made a note to not order from the tractor part guy again, or at least don't make these same mistakes again.

The parts counter can be your best friend or worst enemy. I have found a great person to deal with at Messick's. I deal with him directly at his extension. He is extremely knowledgable and resourceful, all of my parts orders go through him without a hitch. Prior to that it was hit or miss with other dealerships and our closest locally is 100 miles away.
