Does anyone know if you can buy 2.25 x 2 channel? I have looked all over on websites and do not see that size!:confused:

Were you are has more to do with it there is 3 steel yards with in 20 miles of me and 2 good scrap yards.

where you live may have a little to do with availability, but in the end, it's a matter of what the mills roll. that metals depot link is a good reference as to what's available. the 3" and up are generally referred to by their depth and weight per lineal foot, and the smaller ones are referred to as bar channel. i've used a lot of 5 inch and smaller in the past, and those sizes are pretty much what's available anywhere.

if you need a specific size - 2 1/4x2 - you can always take a 2x2x1/4 angle and weld a 2x1/4 flat to one of the toes, and voila - you have a 2 1/4x2x1/4 channel. another option is to have a fab shop bend plate of the desired thickness to the size you need, but expect to pay $70 +/- an hour plus material. your labor welding will be cheaper.

also, you can probably take civesnedfield's word when it comes to steel shapes. knowing who he is and where he works, he had better know. :D
